STORRS. Conn – The UConn women’s swimming and diving team completed a weekend sweep as they took down the University of New Hampshire before defeating the University of Vermont Catamounts at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium Sunday afternoon.
“Super pleased with our efforts and racing at New Hampshire,” said head coach Chris Maiello. “The girls stepped up in a challenging road environment, especially after three hard weeks of winter training.”
The Huskies started the weekend off strong with three pool records. The relay team of Jessica Sheng, Rhian Russell, Maggie Rhodes and Sydney Perkins started the Huskies strong with a record in the medley relay. Following that, Bella Hoffman secured the pool record in the 200 back and final the Huskies capped off the meet with a pool record by Jessica Sheng, Bella Hoffman, Maggie Rhodes and Mia Hatzis in the 400 free relay.
Following their win at New Hampshire, the Huskies returned home for their second meet in back-to-back days. UConn carried the momentum gained from Saturday into today’s meet with an all-around great victory by a score of 224-76.
“We’re extremely fortunate,” said head coach Chris Maiello on the performance. “Our student athletes have been working really hard these last few weeks and today was a little taste of some success.”
It was also a historic day for the Huskies, with a combined five pool records, including two individual pool records by sophomore swimmer Sydney Perkins.
“That was a big goal of mine this season,” said Perkins on her big performance. “It felt good, I’m happy because we only have one more home meet left so I’m glad I got it done.”
Multiple Huskies had career days, including senior diver Olivia Denery who had her personal best on the 1 meter as she helped propel the Huskies to victory.
“Just so thankful and happy to keep going,” said Denery on her resilient performance. “I’m coming off an injury, so I just have to give credit where credit is due. Credit to Coach Katie.”
The Huskies will now look to take this momentum into next weekend, where they are set to face Seton Hall in New Jersey next Saturday.
“We’re getting better as a program and just a testament to the student athletes, coaches, and support staff coming all together,” said Maiello. “And now we’re back to work.”

Very important to note that UConn wore tech suits and UNH wore standard competition suits (see https://unhwildcats.com/news/2026/1/17/womens-swimming-and-diving-mahoney-hart-blume-lead-cats-in-166-123-loss-to-uconn).
Why didn’t UConn Athletics mention this?
Did they suit up because UNH tied them last season?
What’s the purpose of scoring a dual meet where one team wears tech suits but the other doesn’t?
Even with the Huskies having this advantage, UNH still beat them in 50 Free, 100 Fly, and 500 Free.
This was UNH’s SENIOR DAY!! Totally disrespectful for UConn to suit up.
Damn. Kinda disrespectful to not suit up and try to go fast on senior day isn’t it?? Let the swimmers get one last fast meet in at their home pool??
