Swimming WA is proud to support the celebration of 125 years of the Kalgoorlie Amateur Swimming and Lifesaving Club, with a commemorative meet to be held on 8 August.
Established in 1900 ahead of the opening of the Kalgoorlie Municipal Baths, the Kalgoorlie Amateur Swimming and Lifesaving Club is recognised as one of Western Australia’s longest-standing swimming clubs. The club has played a significant role in the development of swimming across the Goldfields and throughout the state, including as the birthplace of the Western Australian Amateur Swimming Association (WAASA) in 1902, now known as Swimming WA.
For 125 years, generations of swimmers, volunteers and families have contributed to the club’s remarkable legacy, making it an enduring pillar of the Kalgoorlie community.
Current committee members Cara Joy and Lyn Van Den Elzen said reaching the milestone was a proud achievement for the club.
“To reach 125 years is an extraordinary honour. It represents generations of commitment, perseverance and community spirit, and highlights the important role our club has played in introducing young people to the sport of swimming and helping them grow in confidence, discipline and achievement,” they said.
“Today, the club is stronger than ever, continuing to provide opportunities for swimmers of all ages while playing a vital role in developing the next generation of regional athletes.
“As one of the Goldfields’ longest-standing sporting organisations, we remain committed to nurturing future swimmers, fostering community connections and ensuring the sport continues to thrive for generations to come.
“We would love to see swimmers from all around Western Australia come and not only celebrate the occasion, but enjoy a day full of fun, racing and excitement.”
To ensure as many past and present swimmers as possible can take part in this historic occasion, Swimming WA has worked with the club to introduce a special one-off membership option. The initiative will allow former members and returning swimmers to compete and celebrate the milestone together.
Swimming WA encourages the wider swimming community to join the Goldfields in celebrating this extraordinary achievement and acknowledges the countless volunteers, coaches, officials and families who have helped shape 125 years of swimming history in Kalgoorlie.

Good for them 👍🏻
