UCLA Claims Top Spot Of CWPA Water Polo Rankings

The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the Men’s Varsity National Top 20 Week 14/December 6/Final Poll for the 2017 season.

National Champion the University of California-Los Angeles tops the final ranking of the year as the Bruins downed host the University of Southern California by a 7-5 final score in the 2017 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s Water Polo Championship game on Sunday, December 3.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC), Northeast Water Polo Conference (NEWPC), Golden Coast Conference, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2017 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 14/December 6/Final)

The  University of California-Los Angeles wraps up the 2017 season at No. 1 as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion Bruins retain the top spot in the Week 14/December 6/Final Men’s Varsity National Top 20 Poll.

The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) runner-up, UCLA (100 points) downed host/MPSF Champion the University of Southern California (95 points) by a 7-5 score in the NCAA Championship title game to reign supreme until the start of the 2018 season.

USC, which was tied with UCLA at No. 1 in the Week 12 and 13 voting, slips to No. 2 in a poll which retains the majority of the rankings from the past several weeks.

The University of California (90 points), Stanford University (83 points), the University of the Pacific (82 points), the University of California-Irvine (72 points), Long Beach State University (69 points), the University of California-Davis (66 points), Pepperdine University (60 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (57 points) conclude the year at No. 3-to-10, respectively.

San Jose State University (47 points) acquires company at No. 11 as Harvard University (47 points) climbs one place. The University of California-San Diego (41 points), which was tied with Harvard at No. 12 last week, slips back to No. 13.

Princeton University (38 points), Brown University (29 points) and California Baptist University (22 points) remain at No. 14-to-16, withGeorge Washington University (18 points) and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (12 points) breaking out of a tie at No. 17 to rate at No. 17 and 18, respectively.

St. Francis College Brooklyn (10 points) and Bucknell University (5 points) complete the Top 20 with the final positions.
