Background Brandon was born and raised in Fairfax, Va. He is the brother of CJ Fiala who recently finished out his career at Virginia Tech and was a staple in the sprint events and on multiple relays. During his high school years, Brandon swam for Westfield High School and Machine Aquatics. He is a 5 time All-American and an Academic All-American. College Brandon made an impact the second he stepped foot on Virginia Tech's campus as a freshmen. At the 2014 ACC championships Fiala broke school records in the 200 IM and the 100 breastroke. He was also a member of VTs bronze medal winning 400 medley relay. He would go on qualify for the NCAA championships in the 200 IM and 100 breastroke. In his sophomore campaign Brandon became a staple on both the medley and sprint freestyle relays. At the 2015 ACC championships Brandon competed on VTs 200 and 400 medley relays as well as the 200 freestyle relay. His sophomore year was highlighted by an gold medal in the 200 IM and shattering his own school record in a time of 1:43.73.
