Also, Mulcare is technically NOT Allowed to swim with USC Team this fall, only with Trojan Swim Club (still questionable how they do this…) This tweet makes me think that he is training with the college team, not the pro club… which is an NCAA Rule violation.

re: #2, that’s happened to a couple of my swimmers who happened to have that same type of fin. They’re made of crappy material, and that swimmer should raise hell with Speedo until the fins get replaced.

yeah… the reporting on those numbers has been super misleading though. Your overall risk effectively goes from 5% to 6%.

All kidding aside, it’s a serious issue. You’re right — for 50 grams a day of processed meat —- risk for colorectal is increased by 18% for a total risk of 6% from 5%. He has about 5 times that much on his plate. The risks for diabetes and cardiovascular disease (and, more importantly deaths from these) linked to processed meats are much higher. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation’s Global Burden of Disease study in 2013 estimated that the number of deaths attributable to a diet high in processed meat was 526,000 for cardiovascular disease, 84,000 for diabetes and related diseases, and 34,000 for bowel cancer. That’s 644,000 deaths worldwide.
