Swedish National and Jr National Champion Wiggo Frohde Commits to Georgia Tech

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Wiggo Frohde from Stockholm, Sweden has announced his verbal commitment to Georgia Tech for 2020-21. Primarily a mid-distance freestyler, Frohde swims for the club team Simklubben Neptun out of the Swedish national swim center, Eriksdalsbadet. He also represents Sweden internationally and competed at 2018 Junior European Championships. There he raced in the 200m free (49th) and 400m free individually (48th) and in the 4×200 free relay (10th).

Frohde began swimming relatively late, at 13, and has been on an impressive trajectory ever since. So much so that in just six years, he has won national titles in the 400 free (senior), 200 free (junior) and 4×200 free (both junior and senior). He told SwimSwam, “Compared to my rivals and friends in swimming I’ve had a strong development curve which is still going upwards!”

Frohde will join the Yellow Jackets’ class of 2024 with Batur Unlu, Caleb Blischke, Justin Alderson, Nathan Hayes, and Sean McNicholl. He has had significantly more success in SCM than in LCM (see below), which bodes well for adapting to the NCAA format. Frohde’s best converted times are still a tick outside scoring range at the conference level (it took 43.76/1:36.62/4:23.54 to score in the 100/200/500 freestyle events at 2019 ACC Championships). GT’s only scorer in the 500 last year was senior Colton Williamson who won the C final with 4:17.82. Their lone 200 free finalist was also a senior, Rodrigo Correia, but Caio Pumputis, Christian Ferraro, and Austin Daniel were all sub-1:38 as well. Frohde will overlap with Pumputis, Ferraro, Daniel, Daniel Jacobs, and Clark Wakeland as well as class of 2023 mid-distance freestylers Josh Cohen and Dylan Scott.

“Super excited to announce my commitment to Georgia Tech! Thrilled of being able to combine a great swimming program together with a great education with such a great staff and team. Go Jackets!!🐝”
