SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After its split with Drury, the Missouri State men’s and women’s swimming and diving team travels to the campus of the University of Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes and the Purdue Boilermakers in a tri-dual Friday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.

Bear Bites
Last weekend, Missouri State split with crosstown rival Drury where the men’s squad topped the Panthers 143-73 and the women fell 131-10. The men’s side was highlighted by seven individual victories and one relay victory. The women took one relay and tallied six second-place finishes during the meet.
Minki Kang was the first Bear to claim first-place, taking the men’s 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:21.49. Freshman Conner Ripp earned his first collegiate victory thanks to his 1:53.06 performance in the 200yd backstroke.
McClay Hartsfield, a freshman, earned the first two victories of his career in the 1-meter (255.90) and 3-meter (264.97) diving. Hartsfield’s efforts in the 3-meter set a new personal record for the newcomer.
Sophomore Loretta Stelnicki was a top performer for the women, bringing in two runner-up finishes in the 50yd free (22.77) and 100yd free (52.48). Briana Horozewski set a new personal record at the meet, swimming a 2:24.59 in the 200yd breaststroke.
Senior diver Alexis Skiniotes set a personal record in the 3-meter while winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. She tallied 265.80 points in the 3-meter, breaking her previous record by over 20 points.
A Look At The Competition
Iowa
This season the Hawkeyes have swam against Michigan State, Notre Dame and Minnesota. The men’s squad was victorious against Michigan State, winning the contest 130-87 but fell to Notre Dame 151-72. The Women’s team found the same result as they beat Michigan State 147-76 and dropped the meet to Notre Dame 154-69. Against Minnesota, the women’s team fell to the sixteenth-ranked Gophers 186-114 and the men fell to Minnesota’s No. 14 squad 185.5-113.5.
Purdue
The women’s team is off to a strong start, winning four out of its five meets in the 2016-17 season. The Boilermaker’s first victory was over Miami (Ohio) by a score of 174-124. The next day, Purdue earned a first-place finish out of eight teams at the Indiana Intercollegiates. The squad’s only loss was to No. 24 Notre Dame on Oct. 28 when the Boilermakers fell 190-110 to the Fighting Irish. The men’s team has competed in three meets this season, winning its dual against Miami (Ohio) 201.5-93.5 and falling to No. 16 Notre Dame 165-135. Like the women’s team, the men finished first of eight at the Indiana Intercollegiates on Oct. 22.
