Michigan’s Dylan Bosch Breaks The NCAA & US Open 200 Butterfly Records

Dylan Bosch ran away with 200 butterfly final at the Texas Swimming Center to win the event on the final day of the NCAA Championships. He had close to a body length lead at the 100, splitting 47.28. Last year, Tom Shields had the crowd on their tows as he chased the NCAA and American records in route to winning the 2013 NCAA Championship in the 200 butterfly. Shields tied Michael Phelps’ American record time of 1:39.58, establishing the NCAA record. It wasn’t just the Michigan fans on their feet during tonight’s finals. The entire crowd was up and cheering, all knowing how close he was the US Open and NCAA records.

Bosch touched the wall to win the event with a 1:39.33. Bosch is from South Africa, and is therefore not able to own the American record. His swim will count, however, as the new US Open record.

Splits:

  • 22.65
  • 47.28
  • 25.47
  • 26.58

Bosch is only a sophomore this season, and was the runner-up at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Bosch’s teammates Kyle Whitaker was also in the A-final of the 200 butterfly. Whitaker finished 5th with a 1:42.56.
