New Trier Swim Club’s Larry Brooks has committed to Lehigh University in the Patriot League for next fall.

Brooks’ Top Times

  • 50 free – 21.99
  • 100 free – 48.45
  • 200 free – 1:43.58
  • 100 back – 54.58
  • 200 back – 1:58.47
  • 100 fly – 52.13

Brooks, who also swims for New Trier High School in the northern suburbs of Chicago, helped NT to a 9th place finish in the 200 free relay at the IHSA Championships last season with a 21.99 lead-off leg. He also placed 27th in the 100 fly.

Last year, Lehigh finished fifth in the 10-team Patriot League Champs. Brooks isn’t automatically ready to score at these championships, but his 200 free might be his most competitive event right now.

He’ll need to be in the 1:41 range to make the 200 free B final, but he could find himself on Lehigh’s 800 free relay, as half the championship relay graduated after last season. Brooks’ progression in the 200 free shows that he’s on the right path to becoming a prevalent scorer for the Mountain Hawks: his freshman year he was a 1:49.72, his sophomore year a 1:46.15, and now his best sits at 1:43.58 as he heads into his senior season with New Trier.
