The Head Group 5 Coach at Pikes Peak Athletics is responsible for leading all aspects of Group 5, the top, most elite group on the swim team. This role combines high-level coaching and athlete development with family communication and targeted administrative tasks. Thanks to the support of a dedicated Swim Team Business Manager, the administrative workload is streamlined, allowing the Head Group 5 Coach to focus more on coaching and athlete success. This position is perfect for a skilled swimming coach and administrator who thrives in a team-oriented environment and is eager to contribute to the continued excellence of Pikes Peak Athletics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of USA Swimming club coaching experience, preferably with teams of 250-300 athletes.
  • Proven track record of coaching and developing Junior National or higher-level athletes.
  • Experience with a USA Swimming Silver Medal Club or higher is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the swimming industry; experience in swimming lessons and the fitness industry is a plus.
  • Current CPR/AED certifications and compliance with USA Swimming requirements (or within 30 days of hire).
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Team Unify, Team Manager, and other web-based software is preferred.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, billing, and specialized charges is advantageous.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and customer service-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Previous competitive swimming experience preferred.

    Core Work

    Leadership and Administration

    • Model and reinforce the company’s culture, vision, and values.
    • Exhibit impeccable customer service and maintain timely communication with staff and parents.
    • Ensure professional and respectful interactions with athletes, parents, and team members.
    • Develop and communicate a long-term vision for the Group 5 program to maintain its status as an elite training group.
    • Attend and actively participate in weekly Manager Meetings. Attend and assist in leading weekly Coaches Meetings.
    • Act as the face of Pikes Peak Athletics at meets, fostering relationships with other teams and officials while exemplifying professionalism.
    • Develop relationships with fellow coaches in Colorado and throughout the country.
    • Collaborate with the COO and Head Age Group Coach weekly or bi-weekly to align staff, training plans, and meet entries.
    • Oversee swim meet entry procedures.
    • Meet routinely with the Swim Team Business Manager to assist with team travel planning, budgeting, and administration.
    • Work with leadership staff to maintain team organization and communication.
    • Decide what swim meets to attend throughout the Long-Course and Short-Course Seasons based on swim team needs and PPA standards.
    • Assist in the meet format for PPA-Hosted Meets.
    • Promote and assist with the Swim-A-Thon fundraiser by collaborating with the Swim Team Business Manager to ensure its success.
    • Assist in leading and developing the agenda for All Parent Meetings to ensure alignment with team objectives and effective communication.
    • Support the Swim Team Business Manager in implementing the Safe Sport Program.
    • Establish system and meeting rhythms for the college selection process for swimmers on the team.
    • Mentor and inspire assistant coaches and staff to uphold high standards of excellence in coaching and athlete development.
    • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for athlete improvement, program growth, and team success.

    Coaching and Athlete Development

    • Lead all Group 5 practices on deck, arriving in ample time for setup and preparation, and staying after as needed.
    • Utilize the seasonal training plan to design cutting-edge workouts that drive athlete performance.
    • Develop and work closely with the Head Strength Coach to execute a comprehensive seasonal training plan for Group 5 in the gym.
    • Coach at all swim meets where Group 5 athletes compete, including travel meets.
    • Diligently track and evaluate athlete attendance and performance.
    • Utilize video analysis and other tools to enhance athlete development.
    • Travel to in-state meets and at least 4 out-of-state meets annually, with the possibility of additional travel based on swim team needs and performance.
    • Maintain a high level of passion and energy for elite, competitive swimming.
    • Incorporate mental skills training and recovery strategies into athlete development plans to support well-rounded performance.
    • Provide feedback and insights post-meet to athletes, parents, and staff to drive continuous improvement.
    • Substitute coach other groups when needed.

     

    Parent and Community Engagement

    • Have weekly availability to meet with parents to discuss swimmer performance, college preparation, and related concerns.
    • Foster a positive team culture with a focus on accountability and inclusivity.
    • Proactively engage with parents to build trust and maintain open lines of communication, ensuring a collaborative approach to athlete success.

    Benefits Eligible

    This position is eligible for retirement benefits at the start of the new year following one year of employment for employees who earn more than $5000 total for the year. An employee is then eligible to enroll in our Simple IRA plan with up to 3% company match. An employee can enroll in the Simple IRA plan after 180 days of employment at any time with no company match.

    Salaried employees have the option to enroll in our medical benefits program upon successful completion of 60 days.

    • Employee has the option to enroll in their plan of choice through the ICHRA system with PPA paying $200 toward the monthly premium
    • Employee has the option to enroll in Direct Primary Care at One Medical with $50 toward the monthly payment.
