Position Overview
The Executive Director/Director of Swimming is responsible for leading the competitive swimming program while also managing the overall operations and strategic direction of the club, furthering our vision of “Building the Champions of Tomorrow Through Excellence in Swimming”. This role includes overseeing the swim school, ensuring its continued growth and development as a foundational program for young swimmers. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with coaching expertise, strong business acumen, and a passion for athlete development and club expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Club Leadership & Management
- Serve as the primary leader in all aspects of club management, overseeing business operations, financial planning, and program development.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to define and execute the club’s strategic plan.
- Manage and develop club staff, including direct reports: Head Coach, Director of Age Group Swimming, and Director of Business Operations
- Maintain and enhance positive and collaborative relationships with parents, swimmers, community stakeholders, sponsors, and partner organizations.
- Oversee membership recruitment and retention efforts, ensuring sustainable club growth.
- Monitor compliance with USA Swimming regulations, safety protocols, and club policies.
- Develop and maintain long-term strategic and seasonal goals and measure and report on progress against those goals for the swim school, swim team and the club as a whole.
- Work with staff and volunteers to plan, organize, and oversee swim meets to ensure smooth execution, including coordinating event schedules, managing logistics, supervising volunteers and staff, and ensuring compliance with competition regulations. Foster a positive and professional environment that supports athlete performance and makes WSC a host of choice for meets within our LSC.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
- In partnership with the Director of Business Operations and the BOD, develop and manage the club’s budget.
- Partner with the BOD to promote fundraising initiatives, sponsorships, and grant applications to support club operations.
- Ensure efficient and effective administrative operations, including registrations, payroll, and facility management.
Swim School Oversight & Growth
- Work with Director of Business Operations and Swim School Director to increase enrollment and maximize net revenue for non-competitive programs.
- Assist with promoting the swim school through marketing initiatives, partnerships, and community engagement.
Coaching & Athlete Development
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for all levels, from beginners to elite swimmers.
- Enhance swimmers’ technical skills, endurance, and race strategies.
- Foster a positive, disciplined, and motivating team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, work ethic, and personal growth.
- Support Director of Age Group Swimming and Head Coach in development of season plans, practice and competition schedules.
- Attend and coach at swim meets, ensuring strategic race planning and athlete development.
- Work with WSC Athlete Committee to execute projects and initiatives to promote positive club culture and athlete inclusion.
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs that enhance the physical, technical, and mental preparedness of national squad athletes, ensuring their readiness for collegiate-level swimming competition. Monitor and evaluate performance, provide personalized coaching, foster team dynamics, and instill discipline and sportsmanship to promote long-term athletic success and personal growth.
- Collaborate with athletes and college programs to facilitate recruitment opportunities, including guiding athletes through the college selection process, preparing recruiting materials, and providing recommendations to prospective coaches. Build relationships with collegiate swim programs to promote athlete placement and success.
