Assistant Coach – Men’s Swimming

Job Description:

The Assistant Coach is responsible for teaching, coaching, evaluating, and working with student-athletes in men’s swimming.

Essential Functions:

  • Recruiting;
  • On deck coaching including planning and recording of training;
  • Interaction with Student Athletes, Athletic Department Personnel, and Alumni;
  • Administrative-assisting Head Coach with team travel and budget. Also purchasing and management of equipment;
  • Design of training programs, team travel and operating budget
  • Completing the day-to-day administrative tasks required by the University and the NCAA.
  • Other duties as assigned by the head coach, including but not limited to, assisting with camps and clinics and public relations programs for the men’s swimming program and/or department.
  • Position requires evening and weekend work for recruiting, practices and meets.
  • Position requires frequent travel with the team to all competitions and throughout the year to recruit swimmers for future teams.




Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree is required.

A minimum of one year of swimming coaching experience is required, preferably at a collegiate level. Experience as an athlete is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidates must have a clear understanding of NCAA and American Athletic Conference rules with regards to recruiting, financial aid, and eligibility.

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing. A strong customer service orientation is essential.

Candidate must possess strong organizational, planning and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks. A strong focus on attention to detail is essential.

Candidate must demonstrate strong problem solving skills with the ability to identify, analyze problems and devise solutions. Strong project management skills are essential.

CPR, First Aid, and Coaches Safety Training necessary to be a NCAA coach are required.

Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of MS Office. Knowledge of HyTek Meet Manager is preferred.

Physical/Environmental Demands:

  • Bend, squat, stand
  • Reach above shoulders
  • Carry/lift over 25-50 lbs.
