NEWBERG, Ore. – Idaho swim and dive put together a dominant performance on Saturday, taking down George Fox in a dual meet. In the end, the Vandals won 13 of 14 events.
Aimee Iwamoto was part of four wins on Saturday, including two individual titles. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.13, then took the 200-breast in 2:25.10. Iwamoto joined Katie Hale, Rylie Jones and Natalie Crocker to win the 200-yard medley in 1:48.26. She was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Crocker, Cassie Dallas and Alexa Teneyck, that won with a time of 1:42.07.
Hale, Jones and Teneyck also added individual wins on the day. Hale won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.48 seconds. Jones dominated the 200-yard IM to win in 2:12.72, and Teneyck won the 1650-yard freestyle in 18:03.82.
Kaling Phung won a pair of events on the day. She won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.79 seconds, the only student-athlete to finish in under one minute. Phung also won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.45 seconds.
Haylee Buyers earned two wins as well. She first won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:10.38, then came back to win the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.70.
Brianna Lucien and Alexis Schmidt each picked up wins. Lucien won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.90 and Schmidt took the victory in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.96.
The Vandals will next head out to Seattle U. on February 1.

NEWBERG — The George Fox swim programs went up against Division I Idaho squad and a strong NAIA Southwestern Oregon Community College on Saturday morning. The men and women combined for two personal records and nine top-three finishes in the double dual losses.

The Bruins continued to shake off the cobwebs of winter training in their second competition since returning in the new year.
The men put together a strong performance on Saturday, putting forth six top-three individual finishes. Caleb Dean led the pack with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke after swimming the event in 55.35. The senior also swam a 54.76 to finish second in the 100-yard butterfly. Swimming the 100-yard back with Dean was freshman Elijah Dapkus, who placed third with a time of 1:00.50.
William Anderson and Chris Mourich dominated the 200-yard IM, finishing second and third, respectively. The two freshmen each posted a new personal best in their event, as Anderson turned in a mark of 2:09.38 and Mourich clocked a 2:15.15.
Jason Levi Gibson placed in the top-three in both the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard freestyle. The freshman’s mark of 1:03.66 in the breaststroke was just .25 off of his PR of 1:03.41 before he finished the 100-yard free in 51.73. Anderson competed alongside Gibson in the 100 breast, falling just short of his PR at 1:05.89.
The men’s 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Dapkus, Gibson, Hunter Bartoo, and Dean combined for the Bruins’ top relay finish in second place. The four combined for a time of 1:31.53 after racing the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:43.91 that was good for third.
On the women’s side, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Olivia Gibson, Chloe Weber, Tessa Orozco, and Maddy Angerame finished fourth in a field of eight teams. The four combined for a mark of 1:48.30.
Swimming against Division I caliber opponents, Aspen Monkhouse finished second only to Idaho’s Katie Hale in the 50-yard freestyle. Hale clocked in just .41 seconds faster than the junior’s mark of 24.89.
Monkhouse also finished third in the 100-yard freestyle after clocking a 58.64, while Jamie Zuckerman finished close behind in fourth at 59.62.
Weber and Gibson both put forth fourth-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM, respectively. Weber raced her event in 2:09.62 while Gibson came off the block to finish at 2:22.83. Joanna Zuckerman and Angerame each added a fifth-place finish apiece. Zuckerman swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.25 while Angerame clocked a 2:26.78 in the 200-yard backstroke.
What Happens Next
The Bruins take a week hiatus before continuing their home stint hosting Puget Sound on Friday, Jan. 24. Swimmers are set to take the block at 6:00 p.m. for the NWC bout.
