Holy Cross Men & Women Sweep Worcester City Championship Titles

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Devin Brindle, sophomore Nora Herbstzuber, sophomore Brenna Short and freshman Mia Smith all won pentathlon titles, as the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team captured a first place finish in the Worcester City Championship at the WPI Sports and Recreation Center. The Crusaders finished the meet with a total of 1,088 points.

DISTANCE PENTATHLON:
• Smith took first place with a total time of 13:35.37 over five events, while posting the fastest times in the 400-yard individual medley (4:35.85), the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.46), the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.24) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.73).
• In the 200-yard breaststroke, sophomore Lily Mitchell claimed first place (2:24.19).

MID-DISTANCE PENTATHLON:
• Herbstzuber won the title with a combined time of 6:15.09 over five events, including first place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.03) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.72).
• Other Crusaders to win events included freshman Clara McCarthy (100-yard freestyle / 54.33), sophomore Hannah Neilly (100-yard butterfly / 1:00.74) and sophomore Ellie Reinhart (100-yard backstroke / 59.59).

SPRINT PENTATHLON:
• Brindle claimed first place with a total time of 2:56.26 over five events, while winning the 100-yard individual medley (school record time of 1:01.86), the 50-yard butterfly (26.16) and the 50-yard freestyle (24.84).

DIVING PENTATHLON:
• Short won the title with a combined score of 465.70, including a first place finish on the three-meter board (243.90).
• Freshman Jillian James on the one-meter diving with a score of 240.60.

UP NEXT:
• Holy Cross will return to action when it takes part in the Harold Anderson Invitational in Kingston, R.I., from Nov. 20-23.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Zach Bubonovich, sophomore Griffin Casey, junior Will Clark and senior Jack Greiner all won pentathlon titles, as the Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team captured a first place finish in the Worcester City Championship at the WPI Sports and Recreation Center. The Crusaders finished the meet with a total of 1,326.5 points.

DISTANCE PENTATHLON:
• Greiner took first place with a total time of 11:32.50, while winning all five events: the 400-yard individual medley (3:58.14), the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.92), the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.16), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08.51) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.77).

MID-DISTANCE PENTATHLON:
• Bubonovich won the title with a combined time of 5:33.46 over five events, including first place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (1:55.63) and the 100-yard breaststroke (56.45).
• In the 100-yard backstroke, senior Jack Sorenson claimed first place (53.55).

SPRINT PENTATHLON:
• Clark claimed first place with a total time of 2:31.37 over five events, while winning the 50-yard freestyle (21.39).
• Other Crusaders to win events included sophomore Peter Mottolese (100-yard individual medley / 53.43), freshman Ethan Steichen (50-yard backstroke / 24.22) and freshman Andrew Villani (50-yard butterfly / school-record time of 22.57).

DIVING PENTATHLON:
• Casey won the title with a combined score of 533.75, including a first place finish on the three-meter board (276.20).
• Junior Luke Parada won the one-meter diving with a score of 263.20.

UP NEXT:
• Holy Cross will return to action when it takes part in the Harold Anderson Invitational in Kingston, R.I., from Nov. 20-23.
