CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings improved to 4-1 in dual meets this season after beating Youngstown State 188-112 on Saturday afternoon.
Cleveland State opened the swimming portion, winning the 200-yard medley as Audrey Butcher, Ella Ciez, Rosie Whitten, and Gracie Chelf finished in 1:44.43.
Chelf claimed the 50-yard freestyle (23.30) and 100-yard freestyle (51.13).
Butcher won the 100-yard backstroke (58.13) and 100-yard butterfly (57.25).
The 1000-yard freestyle was won by Isabella Caraballo with a time of 10:24.33.
Ciez was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke after touching in 1:06.48.
The Vikings took home the top three spots in the 200-yard backstroke with Hannah Panko (2:06.38), Riley Ogilvie (2:07.56), and Brown (2:11.40).
Cleveland State capped off the meet by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay as Chelf, Oksana Horova, Palmer, and Whitten finished in 3:31.53.
Ellie Seiter won both diving events: 1-meter (239.78) and 3-meter (274.35).
Cleveland State will conclude the first half of its season with the annual three-day Magnus Cup, which runs from Thursday, Nov. 20, through Saturday, Nov. 22.

The Vikings started the swimming portion with a win by the 200-yard medley relay as Jaden Davillier, Alex Cucu, Justin Schneider, and Joe Parkhurst put up a time of 1:30.68.
Tyler Schultze won the 100-yard breaststroke (56.27) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.11).
The first individual swim, the 1000-yard freestyle, went to Brock Wallace after clocking a 9:42.46.
Aidan Rush sprinted to a time of 21.68 to win the 50-yard freestyle.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Daniel Lyngaas swam a 45.80 to win the event, while Gabe Hudgens was the runner-up with a 46.46.
Davillier claimed the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:45.16.
The final individual race, the 200-yard IM went to Ahmad Abdalhak with a time of 1:53.02.
Xander Austin won both diving events; 1-meter (339.00) and 3-meter (324.60).
Cleveland State capped off the win by taking home the 400-yard freestyle relay as Lyngaas, Jacopo Lanzo, Hudgens, and Joe Parkhurst finished in 3:02.24.

Cleveland, Ohio – The Youngstown State men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs competed against Horizon League foe Cleveland State in a dual Saturday afternoon at the Busbey Natatorium.
The diving events kicked off the meet’s festivities, and the Penguin women were led by another strong performance from Hanna Held. She placed runner-up in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, scoring 227.18 in the one-meter event and 266.40 in the three-meter event. Ben Edwardson led the Penguin men with a second-place finish in their three-meter diving event with a score of 247.13, while Zachary Lao finished third with a score of 240.45.
The swimming events began with runner-up finishes from both the YSU men and women in the 200-medley relays, as the female team of Lara Lilic, Hannah Murray, Orla Maccines, and Chloe Moore swam a collective time of 1:48.67, and the male squad of Quinn Cynor, James Slessor, Jacob Gramer, and Noah Smith clocked a time of 1:31.18.
YSU placed one-two in both the men’s and women’s 200 butterfly. Orla Maccines won the women’s section with a time of 2:07.44, while Allison Ramirez Romero placed second with a time of 2:12.98. Valer Kennedy won the men’s section as he clocked a time of 1:54.10, followed by Trent Wakefield, who was runner-up with a time of 1:57.05.
The YSU men swept the top two spots in the 200 free, as Quinn Cynor won the event with a time of 1:40.52, while Lorenz Beck was right behind him with a time of 1:42.38.
Cynor also won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.22.
The Penguin men captured the top two spots in the 100 butterfly, as Lorenz Beck swam a strong time of 50.08 to win, and Valer Kennedy was runner-up with a time of 50.90. Orla Maccines just narrowly missed out on a win in the women’s section, swimming a time of 57.37 to finish in second place, just over one-tenth of a second slower than the winner.
Pablo Santos had a very strong showing in the 100 backstroke as he won the event with a time of 51.03.
Olivia Sweetman finished first in the women’s 500 free, clocking a time of 5:05.11. Seif Elbatal led the men in their portion of the event with a second-place finish as he swam a time of 4:47.77.
Hannah Murray claimed victory in both the 200 breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:24.94, and the 200 IM, clocking a time of 2:08.41.
Murray was just two-hundredths of a second off a win in the women’s 100 breaststroke as she finished second with a time of 1:06.50. Adrian Andres Moreno placed third in the men’s section, swimming a time of 57.18.
The Penguins finished second and third in both the men’s and women’s 1000 free events. Olivia Sweetman finished second for the Penguin women with a time of 10:27.19, while Derin Donmez placed third with a time of 10:47.06. The men were led by Poyraz San Askin, who was runner-up with a time of 9:45.16, while Seif Elbatal was third with a time of 9:58.59.
Noah Smith had a second-place finish for the YSU men in the 50 free with a time of 21.05. Chloe Moore finished third in the women’s 50 free with a time of 24.72.
The Penguins snagged third-place finishes in both the men’s and women’s 100 free, as Chloe Moore led the women with a time of 54.61, while Lorenz Beck swam a time of 46.64.
The meet wrapped up with the men’s and women’s 400-free relays. The YSU men and women placed second in each event, as the women’s squad of Olivia Sweetman, Jordan Sarubbi, Orla Maccines, and Chloe Moore clocked a time of 3:38.16, and the men’s crew of Quinn Cynor, Jacob Gramer, Lorenz Beck, and Noah Smith swam a time of 3:02.47.
Cleveland State won the men’s overall team score 188-112, while the Vikings women won 183-117.
The Penguins will return home for their highly anticipated YSU Invite on Nov. 20-22 inside Beeghly Natatorium. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. each day, with Finals beginning at 5 p.m. on the first two days, and 4 p.m. on the final day of competition.
