Fordham Gains Commitment From Freestyler Nathan Rogers (2023)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Nathan Rogers has announced his commitment to swim and study at Fordham University, located in New York. Rogers is wrapping up his final year at Bishop O’Dowd High School, and will arrive in the Bronx for the 2023-2024 season.

He shared his commitment on Instagram:

Rogers trains year-round with the Hills Hurricane Swim Team in Oakland, California. He’s primarily a mid-distance freestyler, with range from the 100 up to the 500. He finished off his high school career as the anchor leg of his team’s 400 freestyle relay at the CIF North Coast Championship, where he put up a split of 49.78.

His personal best times in the 200 and 500 freestyle were done at the WACC Championships in April of 2022. He had a breakout swim in the 200, dropping over three seconds to hit a 1:45.40. The 500 was an even larger improvement, as he knocked off over 12 seconds off to post a 4:45.78. He did not quite match those performances this season, as he logged season best times of 1:47.37 and 5:00.30.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 23.42
  • 100 free – 49.74
  • 200 free – 1:45.40
  • 500 free – 4:45.78

Fordham University is a NCAA Division I mid-major program that competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference. At the A-10 Conference Championships this year, the Fordham men finished 5th out of 8 teams. Fordham is led by head coach Steve Potsklan, who recently completed his 30th season at the helm of the program.

With his best time, Rogers would have been the team’s 2nd-fastest performer in the 500 freestyle this past season. Fordham did not have any entrants in the event at the A10s, but freshman Ethan Newberry led the team in terms of times with a season best of 4:37.76. The 200 freestyle was a much stronger event, with junior Alex Wilhelm finishing 4th at conference in 1:37.44.

Fordham has built a relatively large incoming class, featuring Morgan Fowle, Frankie Sanger, Jesse Abramson, Kevin Liu, John Heinz, Ethan Boyes, and John Koebel. The class comes from all over the country, with Liu being the other California native in addition to Rogers.
