Yesterday afternoon saw Florida International University (FIU) come out on top at the North Florida dual meet as they faced off against North Florida and Georgia Southern. FIU, the defending Conference USA champions, finished the meet out with top honors in 11 of the 14 contested events, including both of the relays that were swum for the day.
FIU’s Jessica Chadwick, who was part of a beach rescue last March, had strong meet, taking top honors in the 100y backstroke (1:05.91), the 200y breaststroke (2:22.63) and the 200 IM (2:07.85). Other FIU top performers included Kyna Periera (1000y free 10:14.36, 500y free 5:00.99), Jessica Piper (200y back 2:06.41), Skye Carey (200y free 1:54.18), and Ally Mayhew (100y fly 57.81).
Amy Taylor, a junior from North Florida, won the 200y butterfly in a 2:06.18. Freshman Athena Cimino took the win in the 50y freestyle (24.21) for Georgia Southern, touching out FIU sophomore Naomi Ruele by 2/100. She also took the top spot in the 100y freestyle finishing in 53.11
The FIU Panthers came out with wins in both dual meets, beating North Forida 168-90 and Georgia Southern 155-103. Georgia Southern toppled North Florida 171-90. Full meet results here.
FIU will return to action when they host Rice, Miami (Fl) and Florida Atlantic at the Dual-a-Palooza on Oct 16-17. Georgia Southern takes on Campbell next Friday. They’ll be followed by North Florida, who will dual with Campbell next Saturday.
