Chandler Brandes Will Stay In-State and Swim For the Vermont Catamounts

Chandler Brandes from South Burlington, Vermont has verbally committed to swim for the Vermont Catamounts, she told SwimSwam via email today.

She will become one of just five home-state swimmers for the Catamounts next season.

Brandes is a solid middle-distance freestyler with yards bests of 54.33/1:55.53/5:08.98 in the 100/200/500 yard freestyles.

In the long-term, those times should put her on Vermont’s top freestyle relays somewhere, though she would have some work to do between now and her freshman year to assure that, as Vermont has a young, talented group of freestylers.

As a junior, she really improved in the longer events, including dropping two seconds in the 200 free and about 8 seconds in the 500 free. She made more modest, but still significant, improvements in the 100 free of just under a second.
