Brazil Collects Three More Gold At The South American Games

The Brazilian team did not quite match their gold medal total from the first day of competition at the South American Games in Santiago, but they did pocket three more gold bringing their leading medal total in the pool to 17 (7 gold, 2 silver and 8 bronze).

Argentina is currently placed second with 10 medals (4 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze) with Venezuela sitting in third with 8 medals (4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze).

The second day of the games also saw new championship records set in every event. On top of all the records in each event in the program on the second day of competition being erased the men’s 200 freestyle championship record was broken by Nicolas Oliveira swimming the lead off on the Brazilian 4 x 200 freestyle relay. Oliveira posted a 1:49:17, which would have won the individual event on the first day of competition.

The three Brazilian golds on the evening were won by Leonardo de Deus in the 200 butterfly (1:57:84), Larissa Oliveira in the 100 freestyle (55:70) and the Brazilian men’s 4 x 200 freestyle relay (7:25:35).

Albert Subirats of Venezuela broke his own 100 backstroke national record of 55.26, which he set in 2009, taking the event in a time of 54.31.

100 freestyle women:

At last today the prelims showed that a good time might happen.. Fratus went 22.12 on 50 free..
