Samantha Needham

Background

Sam’s older sister swam, so, naturally, she joined the sport too. In her young swimming career, Sam swam for the Hampton Dolphins and the Pine Richard Aquatics. Again, Sam followed the same path as her sister and decided to pursue swimming and academics at John Carroll UniversityShe majors in psychology and, when not swimming, enjoys running, baking, sleeping and hiking.

High School

During her high school career, Sam swam for the Hampton Talbots under coaches Mike Seiferth and Kristen Mcknight. In her four years, Sam was a three time district qualifier and a helped break an 18 year-old school record in the 200-freestyle relay. The fun, team-orientated atmosphere convinced Sam to continue swimming in college.

College

2014-2015: As a freshman, Sam’s competed mainly in short freestyle events. Her efforts helped the John Carroll women go undefeated in their regular dual meet season. Sam swam personal bests of 2:02.15, 57.61 and 26.39 in the 200, 100 and 50-yard freestyles at the Ohio Athletic Conference meet. Even with her success in the pool, Sam believes her greatest accomplishment of the season is the making of the team’s training trip video. (Click here to watch it)
