WASHINGTON – The first dual meet win of the season was earned by American University swimming & diving on Friday at Howard, with the women’s team defeating Howard 144-79. Between both the women’s and men’s squads, the Eagles won 13 of 24 events overall.
WOMEN’S TEAM NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Marissa Kleckner won two individual races as well as a relay, leading the Eagles in the meet. Kleckner won the 100 free in 53.58 and the 200 free in 1:57.75. Mallory Meister was close behind for a second-place finish in the 200 free.
- Meister got a win of her own in the 500 free in 5:18.66.
- To cap the evening, Kleckner teamed up with Eleanor Felton, Meister and Mimi Watts for a 200 free relay win in 1:38.71.
- Watts, who has not placed below first in any event this season, was an individual winner in the 500 free in 23.85.
- Kayla Winters was first in the 400 IM in 4:44.03, and second in the 200 breaststroke.
- The 200 breaststroke was won by teammate Kenzie Cresci with her fastest-ever time of 2:25.67, ranking 13th among personal bests in program history.
- Jaehee Park was a winner in the 200 fly in 2:11.78, and Amaya Tomma got a win for AU in the 200 back in 2:13.95.
- Laura Laux, Cresci, Watts and Felton got AU off to a strong start with a 200 medley relay win in 1:48.68.
MEN’S TEAM NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- For a second straight meet, freshman Seamus Brown won the 1000 freestyle, and he placed second in the 500 free. Right behind him in the 1000 was Wil Cosgrove who placed second.
- Jon Quick was also a winner yet again in the 200 fly, finishing in 1:56.77.
- Will Timme, who was second in the 200 fly, got a win of his own in the 200 breaststroke in 2:11.36.
- Two more second-place finishes were earned by the men’s team with Griffin Young taking second in the 400 IM (4:24.57) and Aldrich Elvambuena placing second in the 200 backstroke (2:05.43).
- In the final team standings, Howard beat AU 137-86.

- The Eagles will be back in action at Navy on Nov. 6, also taking on Bucknell and Lafayette in a quad meet set for noon in Annapolis.

WASHINGTON (October 29, 2021) – Howard University men’s swimming & diving team took down crosstown rival American, 137.5-86.5, in front of a packed house at Burr Pool.
Collectively, HU grabbed nine victories while seeing several Bison etch their names into the school’s record books.
Juniors Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago), Miles Simon (Atlanta) and Arion Solomon (Fairburn, Ga.), alongside sophomore Spencer Miles (Lynchburg, Va.), capped off the night with a win in the 200 Free Relay, clocking in the third-fastest time in program history (1:23.78).
Individually, Beckles won a pair of races in the 50 Free (21.13) and 100 Free (46.40). For his efforts, he posted the eighth-best mark in program history for both events.
Simon continues to excel, winning the 200 Free (1:43.45) and 200 Back (1:57.60) while placing sixth and fifth all-time, respectively, in school history.
Miles, senior Miguel Davis, Jr. (Washington), junior Kevin Claiborne (Queens, N.Y.) and sophomore Brenton Cooper (Baton Rouge, La.) opened the night with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay, recording a 1:36.14 mark.
Junior Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) and newcomer Erald Thompson III (Nassau, Bahamas) competed in the 400 IM where they placed first (4:15.02) and third (4:24.57), respectively. As a result, they landed third and eighth, respectively, on the all-time performance list.
L. Thompson also competed in the 500 Free, earning gold with the fourth-best time in program history (4:46.19).
Other notable performances included sophomore Mark-Anthony Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) producing the fourth-fastest all-time mark in the 1000 Free (10:17.69) while junior Reese Samuel (Pittsburgh) claiming the seventh-best all-time in school history for the 200 Fly (1:59.28).
On the board, freshman Jordan Walker (Schertz, Texas) finished first with a score of 242.40.
On Nov. 6, Howard competes in its first road dual meet of the season at Virginia Military Institute. First race starts at 1 p.m.
