The Washington State Cougards dominated their PAC-12 rivals Oregon St in a 154-100 thrashing. That score was affected by Washington State using exhibition swims late in the meet, overall they put up the top time in twelve out of fourteen races.
Addisynn Bursch took three of those races individually as well as swimming on the winning opening relay. Bursch was not challenged in either the 100 or 200 freestyle, but she saved the best for last when she set a pool record in the 200 IM towards the end of the meet.
Two other Cougar women were able to win two a piece. Jasmine Margetts took both the 100 and 200 backstroke while Presley Wetterstrom took the same distances in breaststroke. In both instances, the only close competition came from their own teammates.
Both swimmers showed good balance, swimming just as well in the longer distances as they did in the shorter races.
Two Beaver swimmers were able to breakthrough and take event victories against Washington State. Samantha Harrison won the 500 free handily. She was followed for 300 meters before moving away from her Cougar competitor. She had a closer race in the 1000 freestyle, but took that one as well on the strength of an early push that put her in control of the race.
Washington State’s next meet will be a two day senior meet versus the University of Nebraska next weekend. Oregon State stays on the road to take on Idaho today.
