Friday Prelims Heat Sheet

It is day three of the USA Swimming Summer Junior Nationals, and it has been a fun meet so far.

We have a long day ahead of us with the girl’s and boy’s 200 backstrokes and the girl’s and boy’s 400 freestyle events. The 100 fly will sneak in between those two, and will be our shortest event of the day.

Teagan O’Dell is the top seed in the girl’s 200 backstroke by almost four seconds, coming in at 2:07.97 to 15-year-old Ellie Clarke‘s 2:11.68.

The boy’s 200 backstroke sees Gavin Keogh as the top seed, a second-and-a-half ahead of 2nd seed Baylor Stanton. They are the only two seeded under 2:00 this morning.

Mena Boardman leads the girl’s 100 fly as one of six swimmers who have been under a minute in the event. They will be spread out through the final three heats with Caroline Mallard and Jada Duncan as the other lane four swimmers.

Rowan Cox will be the top seed in the boy’s 50 fly, coming in about a second ahead of Enzo Solitario for the top spot. Solitario has been having a strong meet so far, wining the 200 fly and placing 2nd in the 100 freestyle.

Kayla Han and Aiden Hammer are the top seeds in the girl’s and boy’s 400 freestyle with Han coming in six seconds ahead of the rest of the field and Hammer just over one second ahead.

Girl’s 200 Backstroke

Daniela Linares Danzos, a 15-year-old from the Pleasanton Seahawks, took the top spot in the girl’s 200 backstroke prelims, touching in 2:13.33 to drop a little more than half-a-second from her previous best of 2:13.92.

Sydney Schoeck, a 2026 Texas commit, was 2nd in 2:13.67, coming in just ahead of Roos Rottink, who is committed to Virginia for 2026, who touched in 2:13.70 for the 3rd seed tonight

The final swimmer to come in under 2:14 was 15-year-old Maggie Dickinson, who touched in 2:13.98 for 4th. All three of the girls added from their previous best times.

Top seed Teagan O’Dell was a DFS.

Boy’s 200 Backstroke

Gavin Keogh was the only swimmer under 2:00 in this morning’s 200 breaststroke prelims, coming in at 1:59.87, about a second-and-a-half ahead of the rest of the field, but off his lifetime best of 1:58.19 from last August.

Baylor Stanton was 2nd in 2:01.30, also a slight add from his best of 1:59.60.

The only swimmer in the top eight who dropped time was Ethan Bathala from the Bolles School Sharks, he touched in 2:03.12 to drop seven tenths from his previous best of 2:03.81. The 2026 Duke commit has dropped a little over a second this season, coming in with a time of 2:04.47 from last June.

Ian Frazer from the Marlins of Raleigh finished 10th with the biggest drop among the finalists, going from 2:06.14 to 2:03.37.

Girl’s 100 Butterfly

Jada Duncan was the only swimmer under 1:00 in this morning’s 100 fly prelims, touching in 59.94 to lock up the middle lane for tonight’s final, coming in a tenth ahead of Gabi Brito‘s 1:00.05

3rd place qualifier Lucy Velte was the only swimmer in the top eight to drop any time this morning, coming in at 1:00.28 to take two-hundredths off her previous best of 1:00.30.

Clare Watson was just a smidge behind her at 1:00.30, but hse had the fastest final 50 in the top eight, coming in at 32.01.

Top seed Mena Boardman was 5th in 1:00.40.

Boy’s 100 Butterfly

Enzo Solitario continued his strong meet with a drop in the men’s 100 fly prelims to finish 1st in the prelims at 53.07. This was a drop from his previous best of 53.37 from the beginning of June.

Joey Stauss dropped one-hundredth from his seed time to finish in 53.22 and take the 2nd seed. Charlie Cancelmo also dropped a small amount coming in four-hundredths ahead of his seed of 53.78 to touch in 53.74 and take the final middle lane for tonight.

Top seed Rowan Cox added about a second-and-a-half to finish 5th in 54.07, just ahead of Brandon Ha‘s 54.11, which was an almost two tenth add.

Girl’s 400 Freestyle

Kayla Han swam 4:13.81 in the 400 freestyle prelims to comfortably secure her spot in tonight’s event final. Her swim was a little over a five-and-a-half second add from her lifetime best of 4:08.21 from last June’s Olympic Trials, but was the fastest time of the morning by almost half-a-second.

Alex Siegel, a 15-year-old, was one of three Long Island Aquatic Club swimmers to make the ‘A’ final, dropping over a second to come in at 4:14.10 for 2nd seed. She will be joined by teammates Vivienne Zangaro, another 15-year-old, who swam 4:16.65 for 6th and Lily Gormsen, 18, who touched in 4:18.26 to finish 7th.

Chloe Kim was 3rd in 4:15.68, a little more than half-a-second off her lifetime best of 4:15.02 from March, but she maintained her 3rd place seed.

Boy’s 400 Freestyle

Sean Green won the men’s 400 freestyle prelims by two seconds, touching in a new best time of 3:50.39, which was a two tenth drop from his pervious best of 3:50.55. He is the fourth Long Island Aquatic Club swimmer to make the ‘A’ final in a 400 freestyle event giving the New York based team 1/4 of the total ‘A’ finals swimmers.

Bucky Gettys also went a new best time, coming in at 3:52.55, about half-a-second faster than his previous best of 3:53.08 to take the 2nd seed for the final.

Top seed Aiden Hammer from King Aquatic Club was 3rd in 3:53.25 about a four second add from his seed time of 3:49.42.

Sippy Woodhead’s 13-14 NAG record in the 400 free was set in 1978 at the World Championships. She was representing the USA when she set the record. Otherwise she swam for Riverside Aquatics of Southern Pacific Swimming of the AAU.
