Australian Pan-Pacs and Commonwealth Teams Announced: 42 for Commonwealth and 38 for Pan-Pacs

2026 AUSTRALIAN SWIMMING TRIALS

The 2026 Australian Trials are officially over, and Swimming Australia has announced the rosters for the Commonwealth Games and the Pan-Pacific Championships this summer. They named 42 swimmers to the Commonwealth Games roster and 38 swimmers to the Pan-Pacs roster.

Commonwealth Games Team

The biggest news out of the roster announcements is not who is on both teams, but rather who is not. We have known for a few months that sprinters Cameron McEvoy and Kyle Chalmers would not be attending the Pan-Pacific Championships, opting to focus instead on the Commonwealth Games, but there were a few other swimmers who made that decision.

McEvoy and Chalmers were Priority 1 qualifiers for both meets, and they were joined in their decision by two other P1 qualifiers, Matthew Temple and Shayna Jack. Temple won the men’s 100 fly on day two of the meet and Jack finished 2nd in the women’s 50 freestyle on the final day.

Both appear on the Commonwealth Games Roster but will not be attending Pan-Pacs the following month. On the women’s side, Jack’s absence is a blow to their 400 freestyle relay after she swam 52.96 in the 100 free to finish 3rd earlier this week.

Temple’s absence is also a blow, as he likely would have swum on the men’s 400 freestyle relay as well as the 400 medley relay. The Australian team will still have 2nd place finisher Ben Armbruster in the 100 fly and on the medley relay, though he was about half-a-second slower than Temple this week.

Flynn Southam and Henry Allan are also present on the Commonwealth Games roster and not on the Pan-Pacs roster. Both swimmers earned Priority 2 considerations for both meets, which means it is not clear that they were invited to both meets. With Southam being a sprint freestyler, however, when the Australian men are down three sprinters already, it seems likely he made the same decision as Chalmers, McEvoy, and Temple.

Allan won the men’s 100 backstroke during the meet, and also likely earned a roster spot as a relay-only swimmer.

Finally Tommy Neill and Jessica Cole earned spots on the Commonwealth Games roster as Priority 3 swimmers in the 200 IM and 200 fly respectively.

They did not qualify for Pan-Pacs, since they did not meet the SA qualifying time, and were invited based on the extra P3 qualifying times specifically for the CGs.

Pan-Pacs Team

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there were a few swimmers who only qualified to swim at the Pan-Pacific Championships.

Stuart Swinburn was the only athlete who fell under any priority designation for the Commonwealth Games that is only racing at Pan Pacs. He was Priority 3 in the men’s 200 backstroke after he finished 3rd in the event under the qualifying time, but since the 2nd place finisher, Joshua-Edwards Smith did not get invited to either meet, it seems like Swinburn did not earn a Commonwealth Games Invite.

Swinburn finished 2nd in the men’s 100 backstroke, which made him Priority 2 for Pan Pacs, and since Allan likely chose to focus only on the Commonwealth Games, Swinburn will be the backstroker for the men’s medley.

There were a few other athletes who will likely be attending Pan-Pacs for relays only: Max Giuliani, Charlie Hawke, Milla Jansen, and Olivia Wunsch.

Pan-Pacs Open Water

Swimming Australia also named the Pan Pacs Open Water team earlier this week. There is no open water swimming at the Commonwealth Games, so this is the primary meet for the Open Water team this summer.
