Will Team USA Win a Single Relay Gold in Singapore?

2025 World Championships

Today in Singapore, the USA men placed 4th in the 4×200 free relay, missing the medal podium altogether and leaving Team USA without a single relay gold with two days of competition left. With just the mixed 400 free relay and both 400 medley relays left, will Team USA win a single relay gold in Singapore?

Reviewing the results of the women’s 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, a 28 year old Katie Ledecky posted a faster relay split (1:53.71) at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships than at the 2016/2020 Summer Olympics. In addition, Anna Peplowski posted her personal best relay split in the women’s 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships.

Meanwhile, the male contingent of USA Swimming just needed to match their flat start times in the men’s 200 meter freestyle at the 2025 USA Swimming National Championships to avoid disaster. It’s classic underachievement.

Is the psych sheet for TYR Pro Championship out yet? Could Summer swim there?

They should win the medley easily for women, but that probably won’t happen. Someone will throw up or something.

The meet only has two days before it ends and there could be someone who is sick but at this point after last night I just don’t see it with the way women’s team is performing right now

Answer: likely a single gold. Possibly two.

We’re getting close to the final days of the competition, and with all due respect, the team’s performance has been disastrous — we haven’t even won a single relay. What exactly have you done to swimming???

Are you aware that if Katie Ledecky retires, you won’t even be able to win a single gold medal???

Why is it that countries like France and Canada are raising stars like Léon Marchand and Summer McIntosh in the U.S., but Team USA itself can’t do the same?

You are incompetent — read that last sentence several times.

My message is directed at everyone who has had a hand in these disastrous results.

As a german i see a lot more than only Ledecky.

USA has Alexy, G. Walsh, Urlando, Finke, Huske… and i’m sure we will see young talents rising the next 3 years. There are problems, but also so many good signs.

They are a lock for the women’s medley, even if one of the stars gets sick. There is too much depth. Douglass could quite literally swim 3 of the 4 legs and they would win

Regan on back AND fly and Kate on breaststroke AND freestyle would win.

regan, kate, regan in a wig, kate in a wig equals 3:50.14 which is faster than most 4 person combos

Correct. And at least for Regan, it would be a piece of cake compared to a Bob Bowman practice.
