Simone Manuel qualified for her 5th world championships last week in Indianapolis, swimming to a 3rd place finish in the women’s 100 free to secure a spot on the 4×10 free relay. Although Manuel admits she’s a bit sad for not having qualified in an individual event, this marks a big step for the Olympic champion. Manuel hadn’t been 52.xx in an individual 100 free since 2019.
She’s low key the goat and is super friendly. She doesn’t get enough press for her accomplishments.
I understand that the 200 free has been her training focus this year, but why not mix in some more top end speed so her front end is there along with back end speed? I think she would’ve beat Gretchen if she was 25 low going out like she has in the past.
do we know that she hasnt been working on her top end speed? she nearly went a pb in the 50 last year.
when simone set her 100 pb, her 200 was at its best, so its not like 200 work detracts from the 100. im assuming she saw like i did how soft the domestic 200 field has been in the past few years (weinstein got 2nd at trials last year with a 156 low) — and reasoned she could jump the line w a good swim. after all, torri was able to do just that this year proving that thesis.
In previous interview she only mentioned working with Bob and Eric. No mention of working with Trevor. Maybe she didn’t do as much speed work as she may have done in the past.
Last year she was at ASU doing a hybrid of Bob and Herbie.
Yea why doesn’t she just go out faster and still come back just as fast. Actually why doesn’t even she go out EVEN faster and come back EVEN MORE faster. Sounds like a plan.
