It’s not that deep. It’s the coaches of swimmers who won individual Worlds medals.

Why no club coaches nominated? Ridiculous

The criteria (which I disagree with) is strictly based on Americans at international meets.

So these are the 5(6) coaches who had individual World Championship medalists.

I’m surprised no nomination for Ron Aitkin. And based on that criteria Herbie’s nom is unexpected (not saying he’s not deserving of this recognition, b/c he is. But I think the only American from ASU to individually medal was Regan)

I never read too far into those kind of joint nominations. When you ask coaches who on staff who coaches whom, the answer is “we all coach everyone, it’s a staff effort” about 90% of the time, so joint noms are just sort of the materialization of that attitude.

Is this for coaching Americans, since it is ASCA? Not so sure about a couple of these nominees!

Congratulations to all finalists.

Herbie has been a well respected coach for a few years, but I don’t recall other instances where an assistant/associate coach is nominated with their Head Coach for an award like this.

Has it happened before?
