Headed Into The Final Day Of Competition, Maggie MacNeil Leads In Prize Money Earnings

Headed into the final day of the 2022 Short Course World Championships, Canadian swimmer Maggie MacNeil leads all prize money earners with $48,500 USD. A good portion of that money comes from the $25,000 she earned for breaking the world record in the 50 back. Another $20,000 of her earnings come from winning titles in the 50 back and 50 fly. Tomorrow morning, she can add another $10,000 to her medal earnings if she wins the 100 fly.

Also scoring over $40,000 in earnings are Aussies Mollie O’Callaghan and Emma McKeon, who have $43,250 and $41,500 in total respectively. Both swimmers have benefitted greatly from relay world record bonuses, with O’Callaghan earning $18,750 for her contributions on the 4×100 free relay, 4×200 free relay, and 4×50 medley relay, and McKeon earning $12,500 for being on the 4×100 free and 4×50 medley relays.

Fourth place in the prize money standings is Lani Pallister, another Australian. She has $38,750 worth of earnings, with $30,000 of that coming from her wins in the 400 free, 800 free, and 1500 free.

The male swimmer with the largest amount of prize money earnings right now is Japan’s Daiya Seto, who is seventh on the list with $33,000. $20,000 of his earnings come from winning the 200 breast and 400 IM titles.

According to World Aquatics, formerly known as FINA, there will be over $2.1 million U.S. dollars up for grabs throughout the Championships, with the following distribution breakdown for individual events:

For relays, the total amounts given to each team remain the same, but the money is split between the four team members.

Breaking an individual or relay world record gives you a $25,000 bonus, with the bonus being split between team members for relay world records.
