Huge culture issues in Ann Arbor

There’s a taboo about saying negative things about the elite coaches. Perhaps it’s because a top swimmer could switch programs and then end up seeing the old coach he didn’t like on the national team.

Also, there’s the ‘blame game” when results don’t measure up to expectations. A lot of coaches won’t accept the blame, though I have heard Eddie Reese take the blame for his swimmers’ disappointing results.

With Florida only 60 points behind, and Texas losing Kibler, Krueger, Jiang, Auchinachie & others, will Florida creep up and grab 2nd? Florida seems like a “hot” destination & Nesty is doing a fabulous job at least with men.

Without Kieran and Bobby this would be a very hard task, but wouldn’t put anything past Nesty, also, I want to know how fast this Scott Buff kid will be at UF, but we still have to wait.

Well, Florida could be losing Smith, Davis, Finke, and Hillis. And Cal is losing people too. I think we need to consider NC State as the school to creep up.

Hillis might be the key here unless one of the other breaststrokers has some big drops. I would like to see Kieran come back and a have less relay duties.

They have two breaststrokers that missed the meet by places (one was a freshman who dropped from a 55 to a 52.2), and they also signed the European Junior champion in the 200 breast (silver in the 100).

Has Kibler revealed his plans for next year? Cal is also losing a lot (Julian, Carr, Mefford, Grieshop and maybe Whitley)… men’s side about to be a lot more competitive, unlike the women who look to be a 2-horse race for a while.

Damn with no Jake at trials. Is the US gonna only have 1 A cut at the distance events ??

Someone like Hobson, Magahaey, or Carozza would have to step it up and drop a couple seconds to get under the A cut

The world’s cut is slower than the Olympic cut at 3:48.15….there are a handful of guys that could hit that.

Freeman was 3:47 at Florida Sectionals last summer.

Coleman gets the scoop interviews this week with Sates and Mitchell. Not easy interviews for young swimmers to handle and be PC and not easy for Coleman to perform!

It was easy. I love Coleman’s interviews but he really didn’t take advantage as a reporter. He played it waaaay too soft and never really got into what people wanted from the story. “The Why”. Wasn’t bad, just a bit of a missed opportunity.

Thank you for respecting the boundaries that young athletes set around what they’re willing to discuss. Respecting their boundaries and autonomy is important.

Coleman Hodges

Coleman started his journey in the water at age 1, and although he actually has no memory of that, something must have stuck. A Missouri native, he joined the Columbia Swim Club at age 9, where he is still remembered for his stylish dragon swim trunks. After giving up on …
