Cal Promotes Noah Yanchulis To Associate Head Coach, Adds Maya Geringer To Staff As Assistant

Cal has promoted Noah Yanchulis to associate head coach and added Maya Geringer to the staff as an assistant coach, the program announced on Monday.

Yanchulis has spent the last three seasons with Cal as an assistant coach. He fills the position previously held by David Marsh who announced in March that the 2025-2026 season would be his last with the program as he returns to Charlotte, North Carolina.

“Noah has become an invaluable member of our program,” head coach Dave Durden said. “He has consistently embraced new responsibilities and played an integral role in helping our student-athletes succeed at both the NCAA Championships and on the international stage. His leadership, technical expertise and commitment to athlete development have had a tremendous impact on our team, and I’m excited to continue working alongside him as we prepare for the LA 2028 Olympic quad.”

Since arriving, the Cal men finished 2nd at the 2024 and 2025 NCAA Championships before finishing 7th at the 2026 NCAA Championships. Yamato Okadome swept the breaststroke events at men’s NCAAs this past season. The women’s program had their highest finish in five years this past season as they were 4th overall at 2026 NCAAs. The women were led by freshman Claire Weinstein who swam to an NCAA title in the 500 free.

Yanchulis was an assistant coach for Team USA last summer at the 2025 World Championships. Prior to his time with Cal, Yanchulis was an assistant coach with Oklahoma Christian from 2019-2023 after serving as a graduate assistant with the program during the 2018-2019 season. He spent his collegiate career at Seton Hall from 2014-2018.

Geringer joined the coaching staff at the end of last season and now earns the title as an assistant coach. Geringer spent her undergraduate career at Ohio State before transferring to Cal for her COVID-19 fifth year where she swam for the Golden Bears during the 2024-2025 season.

“Maya has already made a tremendous impression on our team,” Durden said. “She brings great energy, a passion for teaching and a genuine investment in helping our student-athletes grow both in and out of the pool. As a former Golden Bear, she understands the standard of excellence that defines our program, and I’m excited to have her on our staff as we continue building toward LA 2028.”

The program has also announced they plan to add another assistant and will soon begin a national search for that position.
