2026 Florida Summer Age Group Champs

  • July 9-12, 2026
  • Ocala, FL
  • LCM (50 meters)
  • Meet Mobile: 2026 FL Summer Age Group Championships

12-year-old Hunter Gumbayan swam to a new National Age Group (NAG) record in the boys 11-12 200 meter freestyle as he touched in a 1:59.46 at the 2026 Florida Summer Age Group Championships. That broke the previous NAG of a 1:59.72 set by Winn Aung in 2015.

The two boys are the only 11-12 year olds in history to break the 2:00 mark. The swim is Gumbayan’s first NAG record.

Splits Comparison

Winn Aung
Hunter Gumbayan
Former 11-12 Record
New 11-12 Record
50m 27.60 27.40
100m 30.34 30.35
150m 31.2 31.33
200m 30.58 30.38
Total Time 1:59.72 1:59.46

Gumbayan smashed his personal best in the process as he entered the day with a lifetime best of a 2:04.23 that he swam less than a month ago. He has dropped over 10 seconds in the event in the last year as his best time coming into the summer was a 2:10.60 that he swam at last summer’s Florida Summer Age Group Championships.

Relative to his previous best time, he dropped time everywhere, but it was most obvious on the front half. In that aforementioned 2:04, he split 28.60/32.37 in his first two 50s.

Gumbayan swims for SwimRise Aquatics (SRA) and is primarily coached by Kevin Vargas. Vargas spent his collegiate career at Florida and was recently named one of the top age group coaches of the year by Fiter & Faster and ASCA in the Medium Sized Teams category.

In addition to his 200 free NAG, Gumbayan also became the 10th fastest 11-12 all-time in the 800 free as he touched in a 8:55.13. That was a best time by 44 seconds. His 50 fly time of a 27.95 sits at #42 all-time in the 11-12 age group. He has the 400 free, 200 IM, and 100 fly on his lineup the rest of the weekend.
