58TH SETTE COLLI TROPHY

During the 2nd night of racing at the 2021 Settecolli Trophy, Ingeborg Løyning swam her way to a new Norwegian record with a 1:00.00 100 backstroke.

Løyning’s swim was an improvement upon the 1:00.23 Norwegian record that she swam just a few weeks ago at the 2021 European Championships. Løyning got close to breaking the mark again earlier this month at the 2021 Bergen Swim Festival in Norway when she hit a 1:00.25 to win the event.

Løyning’s 1:00.23 swim at European Championships was enough to qualify her to represent Norway at the Tokyo Olympics, getting just under the 1:00.25 FINA A cut. Løyning is expected to race the event for Norway this summer in Tokyo.

She most recently represented Norway at the 2019 World Swimming Championships where she raced the women’s 50, 100, and 200 backstrokes. Her top finish was in the 100 where she placed 14th with a 1:00.47. She also swam a 1:00.35 during the semi-finals at Gwangju 2019 which was a Norwegian record at the time which stood until Løyning’s swim at 2021 Euros. At Worlds, she swam a 28.67 for 23rd in the 50 and a 2:13.25 for 24th in the 200.

The 1:00.00 swim for Løyning was good enough for a 3rd place finish at Settecolli in the event behind Kira Toussaint’s 59.23 for the gold medal and Michelle Coleman’s 59.62 for silver.
