Joshua Brown Decommits from Villanova, Recommits to Notre Dame

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Winter Park, Florida’s Joshua Brown, who announced his verbal commitment to Villanova last November, has changed his intention to the University of Notre Dame for 2021-22.

“I am excited to announce that I will be joining the Fighting Irish swim team next season. I would like to thank the coaches that have given me the opportunity to swim at the next level. I am thankful to coaches Litzinger and Bell for believing in me, and honored they asked me to join their distance program at South Bend. I look forward to growing both academically and in the pool at the University of Notre Dame. Thank you Coach Todd for pushing me to achieve my goals, to Coach Rick for his support, and to my parents for having my back. Go Irish!”

Brown swims for Lake Highland Preparatory School, where he is a senior, and Highland Aquatic Club. At the time of his original verbal, he had just competed at the 2020 FHSAA 1A State Championships, placing 2nd in the 500 free (4:28.77) and 7th in the 200 free (1:40.76).

Since then, he has made huge strides in his long game, dropping nearly 3 seconds in the 500 free, swimming a Summer Nationals cut in his first 1000 free, and taking almost 38 seconds off his 1650 time. He also dropped 12.6 seconds in the 400 IM. All of these swims took place at the 2021 Florida Swimming Spring Senior Championships-North, where he came in 2nd in the 1000 free, 3rd in the mile and the 400 IM, and 6th in the 500 free.

Moreover, Brown recently placed 7th in the 10K and 2nd in the 7.5k at Open Water Nationals. He qualified for the U.S. Open Water Junior National Team in the 10K as the top junior finisher, and he will represent the U.S. at World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships in the 7.5K.

Best SCY times, at the time of his 1st commitment, and now:

  • 50 free – 07 22.76
  • 100 free – 47.47
  • 200 free – 1:40.50
