Five-time Florida high school state champion Catherine Dieffenthaller has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Georgetown University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m beyond honored and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Georgetown University. First and foremost I’d like to thank God, my family, Coach Fred, and all my other coaches for always believing in me and supporting me every step of the way. I’d also like to thank Coach John and Coach Sam for offering me this incredible opportunity! HOYA SAXA!!
A rising senior at Academy of the Holy Names in Florida, Dieffenthaller has been a member of the school’s varsity swimming team for the past three years. She currently trains year-round with Saint Petersburg Aquatics, where she primarily specializes in breaststroke and IM. A consistent improver year over year, Dieffenthaller had a breakthrough 2025-26 short course season, cutting nearly three seconds in the 200 IM, over two seconds in the 200 breast, and just over a second in the 100 breast.
At the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 2A State Championships in November, Dieffenthaller claimed her first-ever individual state title, winning the 200 IM (2:05.73) and placing second in the 100 breast (1:02.49), both current lifetime bests. She also split 28.95 to help Holy Names win the 200 medley relay for the third straight year and led off the 11th-place 200 free relay in 24.84.
Outside of high school competition, Dieffenthaller set her current personal best of 2:17.23 in the 200 breast at the FL GSC Holiday Classic in December.

A Division I Mid-Major program, Georgetown competes in the Big East, with the women’s team placing third at this past season’s conference championships. Dieffenthaller’s current lifetime bests would have placed fourth in the 100 breast, seventh in the 200 breast, and 16th in the 200 IM, leaving her well-positioned to contribute immediately with two full seasons of training still ahead before her first conference meet.
Dieffenthaller joins Ellison Charette, Claire Reed, and Cecilia Russell in committing to Georgetown’s class of 2031 so far.
