7 months after the International Swimming League (ISL) made its debut in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 5th and 6th, the league has published full replays of the opening meet on its YouTube channel.
The meet, held at the Indiana University Natatorium, featured the Aqua Centurions from Italy, the Cali Condors, DC Trident and France-based Energy Standard. Energy Standard would roll to an authoritative win over the Caeleb-Dressel-less Cali Condors.
That was the team’s first win en route to what would be a title-winning season in the league’s opener.
ISL – Indianapolis Final Team Standings
- Energy Standard – 539
- Cali Condors – 457
- DC Trident – 330.5
- Aqua Centurions – 300.5
Sarah Sjostrom, of Energy Standard, won the 50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, 100 fly, women’s 400 free relay, and the triple-points skins race to earn the inaugural MVP honors.
Other key storylines of the meet:
- Katie Ledecky raced her only meet of the ISL season, winning the 400 free and breaking the American Record in the process.
- Energy Standard had all 4 finalists in the ‘skins’ events, which was the first sign that the coaching staff, which had more experience with this format than anyone else, knew the game better than anyone else.
- Breno Correia was not initially entered in the 200 free for Aqua Centurions, but was subbed in at the last minute and won. That was the first taste of what this unique format could do for swimming. He wound up winning again a week later in Naples.
- Lilly King swept the women’s breaststroke races, which was the start of an undefeated season for her. She was awarded a $15,000 bonus for that effort.
- Melanie Margalis broke the American Record in the 200 IM and would throughout the season break the American Record in the 200 IM and 400 IM on multiple occasions.

great experience for all involved. looking forward to more.
Thanks for posting this SwimSwam. Any idea if they will be providing full day replays of all the meets?
I only have guesses. Every time in the last 3 months that we’ve asked ISL for more information about anything, we’ve been told “we’ll tell you later.”
Thank you Braden. So we continue to wait.
