Charlotte Hook Swims 3rd-Fastest 15-16 American LCM 200 Fly in History

2019 PHILLIPS 66 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Fifteen-year-old Charlotte Hook became the third-fastest 15-16 American performer in history in the long course 200 fly on the first night of the 2019 Phillips 66 National Championships in Palo Alto, California.

Update: Lillie Nordmann, 16, overtook Hook as the third-fastest 15-16 performer just after her swim. Nordmann went 2:07.43 in finals. In prelims, she was a then-lifetime best time of 2:09.21, and heading into the meet, her best time was 2:11.20.

Hook, representing the TAC Titans, won the B-final in 2:07.87, nearly two seconds ahead of the second-fastest swimmer in her heat. She split 29.92/31.67/33.13/33.15. Her best time was just swum in prelims Wednesday at 2:10.36; heading into the meet, her best was 2:10.47 from May.

Mary Meagher owns the national age group record at 2:05.96, set all the way back in 1981. Regan Smith, the gold medalist Wednesday, is the second-fastest 15-16-year-old in history at 2:07.42. Smith, now 17, went 2:07.26 to win the event.

With Wednesday’s swim, Hook becomes the sixth-fastest American performer this season and is in line to make the 2019-2020 U.S. National Team if that result holds through August 25.

Flickinger and Drabot need to watch out for these fast-improving teenagers, especially based on the way they swam through rounds at the Worlds, more so for Flickinger though. I won’t be surprised at all if neither of them makes the Olympic team next year.

I think Flickinger will unless, Hook, Luther, Nordmann, Smith can drop to 2:04 or 2:05

In my opinion the swim of the night – might be 3rd fastest American 15-16yr old in history, but likely the fastest American 15yr old ever at 2:07.
