The Top 16 Men in Each Event through the NCAA Midseason Break

The 2nd round of 2016 midseason invites for NCAA teams are now in the books, with several swimmers posting the top times in the nation at the Georgia Invite and Texas Invite. We’ve put together a list of the top 10 NCAA swimmers in each event up to this point. The lists in this article only include top times for the men. You can read about the women’s top times here.

A couple of observations:

  • The Texas Invite produced the highest number of top 16 swims, with 63 swims from that meet making the list.
  • Stanford has the most individual swims on this list with a total of 21. They have a top-16 ranked individual in every event except the 100 back and 100 breast.
  • Stanford has the highest number of swimmers on the lists with 12 total, followed by Cal with 10.
  • There are 4 swimmers ranked #1 in multiple individual events: Chase Kalisz, Clark Smith, Caeleb Dressel, and Ryan Murphy.
  • Texas has the most #1 ranked individuals with 4 total.
  • Cal is the only team with multiple #1 ranked relays.

(Note: The times listed are from the USA Swimming database, so if any swimmers are missing from the list that should be on it, we’ll update accordingly. USA Swimming separates rankings for each division. It should be noted that a few Division 2 and 3 swimmers may also have posted times that would’ve made this list. One of those swimmers is Emory’s Andrew Wilson, who broke the D3 Records with a 51.14 in the 100 breast and 1:51.15 in the 200 breast at the Miami Invite.)

That 1:40 from Jack conger was just crazy! Anyone know how fast he was this time last year? I just saw a video where he went 2:37 300 fly at the Eddie Reese invite this year, so he’s really killing it. Hope he wins an individual title this year!

Went for a while to search his time last year – 1:41.40(2nd of season)
Schooling was 1:40.48
This year Conger is a bit faster than Schooling last year.

In the rankings, USA Swimming still has Mark Nikolaev marked as ineligible, but I’ll have to double check to make sure that’s accurate.

WOW…impressive midseason ASU! With multiple top 10 rankings for men’s relays and top-16 individual rankings for Park, Bohus, Porter and Cameron…GREAT JOB Devils and to their maestro, Bob Bowman. Way to go Devils!!! ????

schooling? He is going to school and training with the team full time? Doesn’t seem like it. I’ll jump on the Cal bandwagon at this point.

So who looks the strongest after all the invitationals are done? I might be leaning Cal over Texas at the moment, Although I do have to keep in mind that Schooling wasn’t participating, nor was lincon swimming all of his events… also Eddie can do some amazing things. With that in mind Cal seems the most well rounded and had the best weekend of meets, some of their relays are much better than expected.

This will be much closer than the last two years! Texas did not have to swim on the last day to win the last two years. It will be much different this year. Matt Scoggin and his divers may end up deciding the national champion this year. Mark Anderson and co. need to,stay healthy!
I don’t know how many scoring divers Cal has on their roster. Anderson, barring injury, is primed for a big year. O’Brien and a really good freshman diver could also score at NC’s.

It won’t be too much different this year. Texas’ mid-to-long distance free and diving easily has 150+ points on Cal.

Did anyone take note of the fact that a Kenyon swimmer broke the D3 1650 record in 14:56?? Thought that was pretty impressive and would have been on this list.
