Confirmed! Lochte Will Be Contestant On ‘Dancing With The Stars’

As hinted by several sources late last week, it is now confirmed that the 2nd most decorated Olympic swimmer of all-time, American Ryan Lochte, will indeed be joining the cast of ‘Dancing With The Stars’.

The reality TV show, which is entering its 23rd season, is revealing its cast members one-by-one this morning on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’. 31-year-old Lochte was the first celebrity to be named as a star set to tackle dance moves in front of millions of eager TV viewers beginning mid-September.

“I just want to move forward. I want the whole world to move forward,” Lochte said this morning live, referring to putting the Rio drunken gas station incident behind him. He’s referring to the debacle occurring with teammates Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen in Rio, which resulted in the Brazilian police getting involved and Feigen paying approximately $11,000 to return to the U.S. All Americans are home safely and have since issued their own apologetic accounts of the situation.

Since the incident, Lochte has lost four major sponsors, including Speedo, with whom the former Gator has had a business relationship for the better part of a decade.

Now, however, Lochte said he is ready to look ahead, beginning with putting on his dancing shoes. “I’m human. I made a mistake. And that’s something I’m going to have to live with.”

Look for Lochte to be paired with a professional dancer to take on the rest of the to-be-named celebrity contestants beginning September 12th on ABC.

I predict the Brazilian gymnast and Lochte will both be finalists, with the Brazilian gymnast winning.

Maybe I’m just an old head, but does anyone else think Hernandez is a lititle too young for the show? She is barely 16 and some of those dances are a little risqué

Congratulations to Mr. Lochte. Unfortunately I dont see him going very far in the competition. Who I do see going far is Laurie Hernandez. Best floor routine dancer in the world and crowd favororite. Couldnt figure out how to post the youtube link to her floor routine but trust me its phenomenal 🙂

Note: i think Lochte wont go far because of the fan vote. Nothing against your dancing skills.

They paired him with Cheryl Burke, so they must expect him to go pretty far. I’m sure the whole thing is rigged, fan vote or not. It’s not like they have an independent auditing firm checking the fan vote.

I am afraid he will be a super awkward dancer.

Seems like the more the story of what happened in Rio is clarified, the more Lochte seems to be guilty of just being a bonehead.

not to be that guy, but your article from “today” has zero new information past Aug. 20th…

It’s information directly from Lochte’s mouth and not from other statements, which I would consider new. It’s also new information on how he got into contact with his teammates during the whole ordeal. People commenting on the situation called him a terrible teammate when they didn’t know how he responded.

thanks for the link from today.
Lochte did something stupid. But he seemed to be fundamentally a good person and good teammate in most others description. Hoping people can still see the good side of him.

Thanks for sharing the links. Wish NBC had investigated at the time… But now hoping at least people discover they didn’t vandalize the bathroom etc

How much does the fan vote effect the length of their stay on the show? Doesn’t seem like he’s a lot of people’s fave at the moment

Seems like he’s mentioned liking to break dance and stuff before so would be interesting to see how far that will carry him

Fan vote has a lot to do with it… Also if the network likes you or not. Example, Ginger Zee last season..

He’s going to get killed by Laurie Hernandez, the gymnast from Rio. She is a bubbly, bright and talented young lady. I am hoping Ryan goes a long way in the competition, but I think the Mirror Ball Trophy is heading towards her.
