Regan Smith swam to a 55.94 in the women’s 100 fly on Friday night, her 3rd fastest 100 fly of her career. Smith sits at #2 in the World so far this season.
Smith has been as fast as a 55.62, a time she swam during finals at 2024 US Olympic Trials for 3rd behind Gretchen Walsh‘s 55.31 and Torri Huske‘s 55.52. The only other swim faster than today was Smith’s 55.92 she swam in semifinals at 2024 US Olympic Trials.
Smith is coming off of altitude training camp in Colorado Springs and is back in her home training pool in Austin, Texas. She has performed well in Austin, as she swam a 56.18 at the US Open in December 2025 as well as another 56.18 at the Pro Series in Austin in January 2026.
Her 56.18 from both meets sat at #2 in the World so far this season, only behind Walsh’s World Record swim of a 54.33 from the Fort Lauderdale Open at the start of May. Based on the announced roster, she is not slated to swim the 100 fly at Pan Pacs later this summer. The 100 fly falls right before the 200 back.
With Smith’s 55.94, there have now been 55 swims that are sub-56 seconds in the women’s 100 fly.

We talk about the US women’s backstroke depth being crazy, but the 100fly is definitely at least on the same level. We of course got Walsh, Huske, and Smith, but then we also got Douglass and Curzan with 56 lows. Both Curzan and Douglass probably could also be 55 100 butterflyers too, given Douglass’s 50 butterfly and Curzan’s butterfly drops in scy.
Fly is deep in the US yes. But backstroke is a whole different level. 6 women being top 10 in the world in the 100. That’s absurd.
