Winter Juniors qualifier Beau Joens has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at Army West Point beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on Instagram, writing:
I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim Division I at the United States Military Academy at West Point! A huge thank you to the Army coaching staff for this incredible opportunity. To my incredible parents, my big brother, my amazing coaches (Kyle, Tim C., Ethan, and Tim H.), and my teammates—thank you for pushing me and giving me pathways for success. I’m also grateful to my Lakewood High School teachers and admin for the endless support. Go Army! Beat Navy!
A rising senior at Lakewood High School in Colorado, Joens has been a member of the school’s varsity swimming team since his freshman year. He also trains year-round with North Jeffco Swim Team, where he primarily specializes in middle-distance freestyle and sprint butterfly.
Joens is coming off a 2025-26 short course season that saw him drop over 11 seconds in the 500 free, three seconds in the 100 fly, two seconds in the 200 free, and about a half second in the 100 free. He posted the majority of his current best times at the Pioneer Open in December, where he won the 200 free (1:41.08) and 500 free (4:33.16), took second in the 100 fly (50.44), and finished ninth in the 100 free (47.95).
Joens also qualified for Winter Juniors for the first time this past season. Competing at the West location a few days after the Pioneer Open, he finished 89th in the 500 free (4:35.09), 109th in the 200 free (1:43.14), and 110th in the 100 fly (51.77), in addition to time-trialing his personal-best 47.84 in the 100 free.
On the high school scene, Joens qualified for ‘A’ finals for the first time at the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) 5A State Championships last month, placing third in the 500 free (4:34.21), sixth in the 200 free (1:41.30), and leading off Lakewood’s 400 free relay in 48.72 (23rd).
