Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Georgia high school state champion Kohlston Katz has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at Army West Point beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on Instagram, writing:
I am extremely blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the United States Military Academy at West Point. First, I would like to thank God for giving me this opportunity to pursue my goals and be the best version of myself. Also to my parents and my sister for supporting me through this journey. Especially, Coach Jordan at SwimAtlanta and my teammates for helping shape me into the person and swimmer I am today. Lastly, I want to thank the entire Army coaching staff for guiding me through the process and for giving me this opportunity. Go Army! Beat Navy!
A rising senior at South Forsyth High School in Georgia, Katz has been a member of the school’s varsity swimming team since his freshman year. He also trains year-round with SwimAtlanta, where he primarily specializes in distance freestyle, backstroke, and IM.
Katz is coming off a 2025-26 short course season that saw him drop over seven seconds in the 200 back, six seconds in the 200 and 400 IM, four seconds in 500 free, and a second in the 200 free. His standout meets came at the end of March, where across the GA SA Best of the South and Greater Atlanta Divisionals he produced his current best times of 4:25.50 in the 500 free, 1:46.47 in the 200 back, 1:50.21 in the 200 IM, and 3:53.15 in the 400 IM.
A few months earlier, Katz helped South Forsyth win the 400 free relay (45.94 split), take second in the 200 medley relay (21.26 anchor), in addition to finishing runner-up in both the 200 free (1:39.67) and 500 free (4:31.85) after touching third in all of his events a year prior.
Katz also boasts a lifetime best of 15:57.11 in the 1650 free from December 2024; he did not swim the event at any of his target meets this past season.
Top SCY Times:
- 200 Freestyle: 1:39.67
- 500 Freestyle: 4:25.50
- 1650 Freestyle: 15:57.11
- 200 Backstroke: 1:46.47
- 200 IM: 1:50.21
- 400 IM: 3:53.15
A Division I Mid-Major program, Army competes in the Patriot League, with the men’s team taking second at this past season’s conference championship. Katz’s current career bests would have made the ‘A’ final in the 400 IM, ‘B’ finals in the 200 back and 500 free, ‘C’ finals in the 200 free and 200 IM, and placed 17th in the 1650 free timed final, already putting him in position to be an immediate contributor with two full seasons of training still ahead before his first conference meet.
Katz joins Beau Joens, Kyle Tsuei, Robbie Doolittle, Luke Hamon, Isaac Yeung, Hamilton Gates, and Christian Shenk in verbally committing to the Black Knights’ class of 2031.
