Men’s 400m Freestyle – Final

  • World record: 3:39.96 – Lukas Märtens (GER), 2025

GOLD – Victor Johansson (Sweden), 3:46.57
SILVER – Sauveur Cristofini (France), 3:48.27
BRONZE – Marco De Tullio (Italy), 3:50.90

Early into the men’s 400m free final, it looked like it would be a runaway victory for France’s Sauveur Cristofini, who blasted through the first 100 in 53.72 before hitting the 200 at 1:51.74, the only competitor under 55 or 1:52 at both checkpoints.

Come the 300m mark however, Sweden’s Victor Johansson pulled even with Cristofini, with both hitting the wall at 2:50.14 going into the final 100. Johansson stamped his control on the remainder of the race, winning by nearly two seconds in 3:46.57.

Cristofini settled for silver in 3:48.27, while Italy’s Marco De Tullio hit the touchpad in 3:50.90 for a clear third place finish.

Cristofini’s time was a new personal best by over a second, eclipsing the 3:49.61 he posted for fourth at last summer’s European Junior Championships.

Women’s 400m IM – Final

  • World record: 4:23.65 – Summer McIntosh (CAN), 2025
  • Mare Nostrum record: 4:30.75 – Katinka Hosszu (HUN), 2016

GOLD – Agostina Hein (Argentina), 4:36.21
SILVER – Ludovica Patetta (Italy), 4:47.78
BRONZE – Simona Quadarella (Italy), 4:48.58

It was a dominant performance from Argentine rising star Agostina Hein in the women’s 400m IM final. The 18-year-old led from the first stroke and never relinquished the lead, winning by over 11 seconds.

Hein touched in 4:36.21, just 0.21 off her season best and under two seconds from the 4:34.34 personal best she posted to win the World Junior title last August.

Splits for Hein tonight included: 1:00.92 (28.45, 32.47)/1:10.74 (35.87, 34.87)/1:21.55(40.88, 40.67)/1:03.00 (32.11/30.89).

Italy’s Ludovica Patetta (4:47.78) and Simona Quadarella (4:48.58) rounded out the podium.

GOLD – Caspar Corbeau (Netherlands), 2:09.11
SILVER – Kirill Prigoda (Russia), 2:09.51
BRONZE – Aleksandr Zhigalov (Russia), 2:11.01

Russia’s Kirill Prigoda and the Netherlands’ Caspar Corbeau were deadlocked at the first wall, both splitting 29.24, but it was all Corbeau over the next three laps.

The Dutchman extended his lead with each split, going 33.07, 33.35, and 33.35 to touch in 2:09.11. Prigoda split 33.65 and 33.77 before charging home in 32.87, but Corbeau had built enough of a cushion by then, with Prigoda settling for silver in 2:09.51 as the only other man sub-2:10.

Prigoda’s Russian teammate, Aleksandr Zhigalov, took bronze in 2:11.01, clearing the rest of the field by over two seconds.

Women’s 100m Breaststroke – Final

GOLD – Alexanne Lepage (Canada), 1:06.80
SILVER – Tes Schouten (Netherlands). 1:07.12
BRONZE – Evgeniia Chikunova (Russia), 1:07.55

American Skyler Smith blasted out to the lead through the first 50m of the women’s 100m breast, hitting the wall in 31.61 with reigning world champion Anna Elendt second at 31.94 and Canada’s Alexandra Lepage third in 31.97.

It was all Lepage on the back half; she roared home in the only sub-35 split of the field at 34.83 to snag the win in 1:06.80, the sole sub-1:07 of the evening. The Netherlands’ Tes Schouten (1:07.12) and Russia’s Evgeniia Chikunova (1:07.55) rounded out the podium, while Elendt faded to fifth in 1:07.77 and Smith touched sixth in 1:08.29.

SILVER – Patrick Sammon (USA), 48.20
BRONZE – Nandor Nemeth (Hungary), 48.59

Hungary’s Kristof Milak took control of the men’s 100m free from the gun, but had to fend off Team USA’s Patrick Sammon stroke for stroke for the entirety of the race.

Milak got off to a particularly strong start, leading Sammon by about a quarter of a body length through the first 15m, but the two were nearly even at the turn, with Milak flipping in 23.02 to Sammon’s 23.10.

Milak closed in 25.11 to Sammon’s nearly identical 25.10, holding on for the win 48.13 to 48.20.

Milak’s countryman Nandor Nemeth swam 48.59 for a clear third over Russia’s Andrei Minakov, who swam 48.93 for the final sub-49 swim of the field. Of note, reigning 50m and 100m fly world champion Maxime Grousset of France took fifth in 49.01.

Team USA’s Jack Alexy, the reigning world silver medalist, settled for 25th in prelims with a time of 51.35.

SILVER – Gabe Jett (USA), 1:56.85

The men’s 200m fly may have been the most exciting race of the evening in terms of closeness, with the lead changing hands at each 50m split throughout.

It was ultimately Hungary’s Richard Marton who got the win in 1:56.72, a mere 13 one-hundredths ahead of Team USA’s Gabe Jett, who himself touched just two one-hundredths ahead of Italian Alberto Razzetti (1:56.87).

While Samusenko owns a PB of 52.40 from last year, Sarvia was within striking distance of his 53.26 National Record from last June’s Spanish Championships.

GOLD – Alberto Razzetti (Italy), 1:59.76
SILVER – Noe Ponti (Switzerland), 2:00.07
BRONZE – Gabor Zombori (Hungary), 2:01.13

It was a tough double for Italian Alberto Razzetti, who just 20 minutes after taking bronze in the 200m fly came back to win the 200 IM in a tight battle with Switzerland’s Noe Ponti.

Razzetti registered the sole sub-2:00 outing of the field, 1:59.76, to edge outPonti (2:00.07).

Hungary’s Gabor Zombori (2:01.13) was just over a second back to grab the bronze medal.

As expected, Ponti was dominant through the fly leg and used a strong underwater to extend his lead through the backstroke, but the back half was all Razzetti:

Tracking The Speed Tournament

The speed tournament has swimmers race through (potentially) five rounds in just two days. Whatever their preliminary entry times might be, all swimmers must race every step of the elimination tree:

  • Day 1: Heats & Quarterfinals: Swimmers begin with morning preliminary heats. The fastest 16 advance to the 1/8 final (which will take place 30 minutes prior to the main finals session), which then whittles down the field to the 8 best for the quarterfinal (which will take place after the conclusion of the main finals session).
  • Day 2: Semifinals & Finals: The 4 fastest swimmers from the previous day compete in the semifinal. The final is a head-to-head showdown, where only the top 2 swimmers lineup from the semifinals.

Siroky’s 29.64 50 BR makes her the 2nd fastest American and 6th fastest performer in history! King’s AR only .24 away, could we see her approach that tomorrow?

Another strong reason not to have a Trials every summer. Look at all the Americans taking advantage of racing in China, Monaco, AP London, etc. Swimming and racing also needs to be a learning experience and fun! I would pick Monaco over Sacramento!

Yeah overall I don’t like that the team was picked a year in advance but this is a silver lining of it

Grousset doesn’t seem in great form here. Hope he will do 100 fly but I’m not expecting much, especially with Milak who looks strong In full training before french championships?

I got the answer. In french sport newspaper ‘L’Equipe’ his coach Michel Chrétien said he is in full training and has taken part in this competition without too much confidence. He even said Maxime is cooked, cooked, cooked 😁. But no worries, only concentrating as I thought on doing a acceptable 100 fly.

Gabe Jett looking really fast and strong in the middle of his 200fly. Dalgren was out strong but faded quick can’t wait to see what Jett has in his freestyle events. Pretty good showing from USA swimmers on day 1. I wonder if Alexy is sick or injured maybe?
