Sierra Jett, Daughter of Two National Team Alums, Commits to Auburn

Sierra Jett, who hails from Clovis, California and swims for TNT (Tule Nation Tritons), has given her verbal commitment to Auburn University. Jett is the daughter of two Auburn alums: Scott Jett who was a 16-time All-American and her mother Kristie was a 15-time All-American, both during the David Marsh era. Both of her parents represented the US internationally in the mid-1990s. Her parents experience did play some part in her decision:

“Both of my parents swam for Auburn and they are still die-hard Tigers.  But seeing their caps on Auburn’s “National Team Wall” and getting to know the school for myself made me realize I wanted to be part of Auburn swimming and all that comes with it”

Jett has the biggest potential to contribute to Auburn in sprinting, as her two best individual events are the 50 and 100 free. She also has a strong 50 fly, not a common individual event in club swimming but a talent that could help her contribute on a 200 Medley Relay

Her best times are:

  • 50 free: 23.59
  • 100 free: 51.52
  • 50 Fly: 25.97

However, Jett has work to do to factor into Auburn’s lineups and relays, as sprint freestyles are where the team is deepest. Last year both her 50 and 100 free would have been 10th and 9th respectively on the team.  It’s worth adding that college programs, and historically Auburn, offer more specific sprint training that could really benefit a swimmer like Jett who doesn’t really compete in events longer than 100 yards.  She also has an unusual background- having come to swimming after earlier competing in Equestrian events growing up. Combine that with a strong pedigree and she could be a surprise factor for the Tigers very soon.
