Ashley Cusano, a senior at Union High School in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, has committed to the North Carolina State University Wolfpack for 2020-21. She wrote on social media:
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at NC State University! I want to thank my coaches, family, and friends for getting me to where I am now. I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing team! 🐺 #gopack”
Cusano is a back/fly specialist with terrific versatility. She won the 100 fly (54.54) and 100 back (55.31) at the 2019 Virginia VHSL 1A/2A State Championships after having won the 100 back (55.62) her sophomore year as well. In club swimming, Cusano swims for Barracuda Swim Club of Northeast Tennessee, just across the state border. She competed at Winter Junior Championships East in the 100/200 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM. Last spring she notched PBs in the 200 back, 50 fly, and 100 IM at NCSA Spring Championship. She finaled in the 100/200 back and 50 fly.
Cusano will join the Wolfpack with class of 2024 commits Abby Doss, Abby Pilkenton, Katey Lewicki, and Morgan Jones. She is a highly versatile athlete who can develop in a number of ways but she would already score in the 200 back and 100 fly at ACC Championships.
