The last prelims session of the 2021 Pro Swim Series in Mission Viejo is set to begin with the men’s and women’s 200 IM, 200 back, and 100 free.
After clocking the #2 200 fly time in the world in prelims, Hali Flickinger scratched the final to focus on the 400 free.
The current junior group has a heated battle for top scorer. Kieran Smith leads scoring, but Shaine Casas leads with 3 individual NCAA titles.
With a couple days to reflect, here’s what stood out to us at the 2021 Men’s NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships last week.
Texas A&M’s Shaine Casas (200 BK) and Cal’s Ryan Hoffer (100 FR) will aim for a perfect 3-for-3 title sweep tonight in their respective events.
While Cal fell a bit short to Texas in the overall battle, the Bears closed out the meet with their win in the 400 free relay since 2011.
The Longhorns’ key to success so far this meet has been getting all 16 swimmers to score, something they have not accomplished in recent years.
There have now been 28 sub-45 second performances in the men’s 100 fly during the 2020-2021 NCAA season.
Shaine Casas won Texas A&M’s first NCAA title in program history yesterday in the 200 IM. Tonight, Casas will have a shot at the 100 back title.
