Night 2 of the Boise Sectionals saw the high schoolers rule the pool, particularly 15-year-old Naomi Weibel, from Flying Fish Arizona.

Weibel just finished her freshman year at Canyon Del Oro High School, and picked up two top-2 finishes on the 2nd night of the meet, including an event win in the 400 IM. She was the only event winner on the women’s side who is not a college athlete.

In the 100 backstroke, Weibel finished 2nd, stopping the clock in 1:04.79. She came in half-a-second behind Washington State’s Jade Castro, who won the event in 1:04.29.

Castro, a rising senior at Washington State, added about a second-and-a-half from the 1:02.93 mark she set in July of 2021.

Weibel’s swim was almost a full second drop from her previous best of 1:05.54, which she set in June. Her pre-season best stood at 1:05.68 from the Speedo Sectionals meet in Mt. Hood last year.

Just a few events later, Weibel earned an event win in the women’s 400 IM. She swam 5:02.54 to finish five seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher MJ Gilligan from Scottsdale Aquatic Club.

Weibel’s swim was a little off her personal best time of 4:59.79, which she swam in July of 2025 at the same Mt. Hood Sectionals meet. Gilligan, who is a rising junior at West Virginia University, has a lifetime best of 5:00.13 from May of this year.

On the men’s side, all but one event went to high school swimmers. In the men’s 50 breaststroke, Denny Woods, from Durango Swim Club in Colorado, swam the top time of 28.94. He was the only swimmer under 29 seconds in the event, beating Youssef El-Kamash, a 30-year-old from Phoenix Swim Club, who swam 29.02.

Woods’ swim was slightly off his lifetime best of 28.90 from July of 2025 and Kamash added almost two seconds from the 27.21 he swam in June of 2021. Woods is committed to swim at Colorado Mesa University in the fall.

Cole Faut, from Phoenix Swim Club, picked up his 3rd event of the meet in very close fashion. He swam 58.38 to win the men’s 100 backstroke by just five-hundredths over Scottsdale Aquatics Club’s Brady Holubar, who swam 58.43.

Faut, who is committed to swim for Arizona in the fall, dropped a second-and-a-half from his previous best time of 59.87 from June. Before this season, he had never been under 1:00, coming in at 1:00.44 from the Mt. Hood Sectionals.

The final high school winner was rising senior Dominik Irons, from Scottsdale Aquatics Club. In the 400 IM final, he swam 4:34.99, finishing almost six seconds ahead of Jacob Furqueon‘s 4:40.94 in 2nd place for the Spokane Waves.

Irons, who is uncommitted for the class of 2027, added about a second from his best of 4:33.62, which he swam in June of 2024. Furqueron, a rising high school junior, added almost two seconds from his best of 4:39.13, which he swam in July of 2025.
