Stanford Men Land #13 Ethan Dang, Top 200Y Breaststroker in HS Class of 2020

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

#13 Ethan Dang, one of just two uncommitted men from our high school class of 2020 rankings, has announced his intention to join the Stanford Cardinal next fall. Dang is a senior at Hazen High School and has been training with Bellevue Club Swim Team in Washington state.

It’s a dream come true! I’m beyond excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at Stanford University! I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for all of their guidance and support. Go Card!! 🌲 #babytree #godisgood

Dang has been around in conversation for awhile as an age group standout, and he still holds several NAG records in both yards and meters in both the 11-12 and 13-14 age groups. He is the fastest 200 breaststroker, in yards, in the high school class of 2020, hundredths ahead of Cal commit Forrest Frazier.

At the 2018 Winter Junior Championships – West, Dang placed third in the 200 breast and fourth in the 100 breast. He went on to compete with the U.S. junior team at the 2019 Mel Zajac meet in May, placing third in the 200 breast, and then contested at the 2019 U.S. Senior Nationals and the 2019 Speedo Junior Nationals this past summer. He clocked a lifetime best 1:03.13 in the 100 breast to take 12th at Juniors, while he placed 17th in the 200 breast (2:16.73), just off his best of 2:15.13 from 2017. He hit Olympic Trials cuts in both breaststroke events.

This year, Stanford is led in breaststroke by the 2019 NCAA 100 breast B-final winner, Hank Poppe, who was 51.93 last year at NCAAs, and 2019 200 breast B-finalist Daniel Roy (1:52.93). Roy is now a sophomore, and while Poppe is done after this season, Roy will have two years of overlap with Dang.

Dang is the sixth public commitment to Stanford for next fall, and fifth ranked in the top 20. He joins #11 Ethan Hu, #14 Rick Mihm, #16 Preston Forst, #19 Luke Maurer, and Aaron Sequiera.

The final uncommitted male from our top 20 rankings (including honorable mentions) is sprinter and #4, Adam Chaney.
