Sarah Kohler Takes Three Seconds Off German 1500 Record In Heats

2019 FINA WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

2016 Olympian Sarah Kohler reset the German National Record in the preliminary heats of the women’s 1500 free on day two of the 2019 World Championships, advancing through to the final in third place.

Kohler placed second to Katie Ledecky in the third and final heat in a time of 15:54.08, breaking her previous mark of 15:57.85 set at the European Championships last summer where she won silver.

SPLIT COMPARISON

Compared to her swim in Glasgow, she was out significantly faster here, turning over three seconds faster at the 800m mark in 8:25.91.

The 25-year-old is already a medalist here in Gwangju, winning gold in the open water Team Event earlier on in the competition. She also won silver in that event at Euros last year.

Heading into the final, Ledecky leads the field at 15:48.90, followed by Italian Simona Quadarella (15:51.59) who won that European title last August over Kohler.

The final of this event will take place during day three finals.
