Sixteen-year-old swimmer Prathna Bhatia, jo city school ki student hai wo India ko Berlin mein hone wale Special Olympics World Games mein represent karengi jo ko 17 se 25 June tak hoga. Wo 25m and 50m freestyle events mein participate karne wali hai.
Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, Special Cell for Intellectually Challenged, ki student hai. Prathna ne sabhi preparatory-cum-training camps jo ki four different states mei huye the unhe cleared kar liya hai wo bhi Indian swimming team mein apni berth confirm krne se phle hi. Cycling mein national-level medallist Prathna ne apne father ke under mein 4-years ki age se hi swimming start kar di thi aur baad mein unhone apne coach Rakesh Kumar ke under mein apni skills ko sharpened kiya tha.
Unhone Sheetal Negi jo ki coach hai Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities, Sector 31 mein unke under Prathna ne preparatory India’s probable camps attend kiya hai. Sheetal akeli official hai Chandigarh se jo ki Berlin Games mei Indian coaching contingent ki part hai.
“Plane mei baithne ke liye aur Germany mei swim krne ke liye mai kaafi excited hun. Championship ke liye maine new dress (swimming costume) bhi le liya hai. Maine social media platform par apni pic dekhi jisse mujhe bahot khushi mili,” Prathna ne kaha.
Special Olympics Bharat various preparatory camps organised kiya tha over 380 participants ke liye jisme 177 special athletes hai 23 states se aur ise Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Sports Authority of India ke dwara support bhi kiya jaa raha hai. Special Olympic Bharat Chandigarh Chapter jo ki director Neelu Sarin ke dwara head kiya jaa rha hai, wo national body se affiliated hai.
Prathna Bhatia (16) five ki age mei slow learner se diagnosed hui thi. Unki mother Anju Bhatia ne unhe nursery class mein teach krne ka try kiya, but difficulties faced ki. Apni daughter ki weakness jaanne ke baad Anju ne apni job chhod kat Prathna ke career par focus krna start kar diya. Almost 12 years ke struggle ke baad, Indian swimming contingent ka member banne ke baad Prathna ko major boost mila hai.Apne parents ki eklauti child hai Prathna. Unka aim hai ki country ke liye sports mein excel karein.
