Bowling Green State Sweeps YSU, Oakland in Senior Day Tri-Meet

Bowling Green State ended their season with a bang, defeating Youngstown State and Oakland in their senior day tri-meet. The Falcons took down YSU 223-77, and beat Oakland 198-96. Oakland also took home a win as they overcame Youngstown State 196-98.

Youngstown State:

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Youngstown State swimming and diving team competed in its final dual meet of the season against Bowling Green and Oakland at the Cooper Pool on Friday night. Bethany Glick earned a win in the three-meter dive for the Penguins.

In the team scoring, Oakland defeated the Penguins 196-98 while the Falcons beat YSU 223-77.

Glick won the three-meter dive with a score of 245.48 in the three-meter diving event. Megan Siford was second in the event with a 241.65 while McKenzie Stelter was fourth with a 218.92.

In the one-meter, Stelter was second with a score of 253.80 while Glick was third at 252.23 and Siford placed fourth with a 232.58.

In the swimming events, Madison Aranda was second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.02 and placed third in the 400 IM clocking in at 4:37.06.

Zsani Csado was third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.60. She was also third in the 100 fly posting a time of 58.82 seconds. Viktoria Orosz placed third with a time of 2:06.03 in the 200-yard backstroke.

The Penguins are next in action on Feb. 24 at the Horizon League Championships in Rochester, Mich.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Krissy Harmon won the 1,000-yard freestyle, while Patricia Aschan won the 400 IM as the Oakland women’s swim team defeated Youngstown State 196-98 while falling to Bowling Green 198-96 Friday night at Cooper Pool.

The Oakland men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will finish the season at the Horizon League Championships at the Oakland Aquatic Center Feb. 24-27.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving program celebrated Senior Night in triumphant fashion on Friday night at Cooper Pool, defeating both Oakland University and Youngstown State University. BGSU was victorious 198-96 over Oakland and 223-77 against YSU. During the meet, eight seniors were recognized along with their families and friends. Jordan Bullock, Tara Capouch, Daniela Carrillo, Kayla Effinger, Nicole Hranchook, Hannah Newman, Rachel Perry and Alexandra Poitinger were the eight who were honored.

“Today was a great day for the team and our program,” head coach Matt Ense said after the meet. “First off, to celebrate our eight seniors and all of the accomplishments for them in their careers was special. The team swam some strong times as we continue to prepare for MAC Championships – right here at Cooper Pool – in just under three weeks. Finally, thank you to all of the fans that came out to support us. The crowd in the stands was unbelievable, and we hope that it is that good – and better – for MAC Championships.”

Seniors picked up four victories on Friday night in the tri-meet, two each from Bullock and Carrillo. In total, the Falcons won 11 of the 14 swimming events to cruise to a dominate victory over both opponents. Bullock won both the 100 and 200 fly, the win in the 100 fly being her fifth of the season in that event. Carrillo was impressive in winning the 100 and 200 breast, winning the 200 breast by nearly six seconds. It was Carrillo’s sixth win of the season in the 200 breast and her fourth in the 100 breast.

Junior Victoria Griffin led the Falcons with three victories individually. She was victorious in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle. Her 200 free marked the fourth win of the season in the event, while her dominating 100 was her sixth triumph in the event this season. The Falcons excelled in the freestyle events during the entire meet, as freshman Mary Edwards turned in strong races in both the 500 and 1,000 free. In the 500 free, Edwards touched the wall first in a time of 5:04.66 for her first career victory, while her 1,000 free time of 10:24.10 was the Falcons’ top time in the event this season.

Also picking up wins for the Orange and Brown on Friday night were Maya Skorupski in the 100 back, Franziska Wohlert in the 200 back, and Claire Stam in the 1 meter diving. BGSU’s team of Skorupski, Carrillo, Bullock and Effinger began the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. The win for Skorupski in the 100 back was her fourth of the season in the race, while Wohlert’s 200 back victory was her fifth of the year.

Bowling Green improved to 6-2 on the 2015-16 campaign with the wins on Friday night. The Falcons will be back in action in 19 days for the MAC Championships, which run from Feb. 24-27 at Cooper Pool.
